Today, I was pissed that I got a £60 parking ticket so rang my friend to rant about it. I then got pulled over by the cops for using my phone, and was fined £120. FML

Today, I received a parking fine for $147. My car isn't even worth that much. FML
Today, I was pulled over by a cop and was fined $210 for making an illegal u-turn. When the cop finished writing my ticket and hopped in his car, he made the same u-turn. FML
Today, I got fired because I abruptly hung up on my boss while being pulled over for talking in a hands free zone. I also got a $300 fine. FML
Today, I gave my friend a ride to town so she wouldn't have to pay the $10 to park. While waiting to pick her up, I grabbed a bite to eat. Upon returning to my car, I found a $55 parking ticket on my windshield. FML
Today, I found out I had gotten a parking ticket while I was travelling a few months back in California. I moved since, so I didn’t know I had it so it increased to 200$ and when I told the guy who was actually driving the car about it, he blocked me. FML
Today, after finding $50 on the sidewalk this morning and feeling like the luckiest person alive, I got a parking ticket for $60. FML
Today, working my pizza delivery job, I got a $45 parking ticket for parking in a no stopping zone. I argued with the bylaw enforcement officer, but no luck. I was so pissed, I yelled at him, "You have the worst job in the world", to which he replied, "Buddy, you deliver pizza!" FML
Today, I was on the way to traffic court for a $340 speeding ticket I'd got. My mother called me and I wasn't paying attention which caused me to speed. Right past a cop. When I told the cop where I was going, he started laughing at me. I now have another $300 ticket. FML
Today, while at an important meeting at work, I got to watch helplessly as a police officer gave me a parking meter ticket. Added to that my boss chewed me out for "never paying attention and staring out the window during meetings". FML
Today, I was driving home and got a phone call from my mom. She called to tell me that there was a cop at the bottom of our hill, and to be careful. I got a ticket for talking on my cell phone while driving. FML

I only hope that when you crash your car while on your phone, you do it into a pole or off a cliff so no innocent people or trees are killed. You deserve it and more, you stupid, arrogant, irresponsible ****. Hang up and ******* drive. You're behind the wheel of a two-ton weapon, so ******* remember that as you pony up your £180, assface.

Totally deserved, It's the law for a reason. One of my friends got hit by an idiot driving while on his mobile and it's ruined his life.

Oh goodness gracious! Yeah, plenty of people still talk or text while driving, regardless of the law. How many underage drinkers are there? And drug users? That's illegal as well! Leave this poor person alone! I am sorry about your horrible luck... that really does suck. That's something that would happen to me... haha

We get your point, people do stupid things. But all the other things you listed doesn't tend to cause the person in question to be in control of a machine that if used incorrectly can kill other people. And texting whilst driving is even stupider/more dangerous than just talking. Not to mention there's a reason why the other things you mentioned are illegal. But at least if someone decides to risk it, chances are they're only endangering themselves or other people who've decided to take the same risk. In short; the OP isn't a 'poor person', they totally deserved this.

Even ignoring that you're proposing non-analogous situations, some training in logic will teach you that something bad is bad regardless of other people doing other bad things. In other words, just because Alice is a thief does not mean that it's cool for Bob to murder someone. Hell, just because *everyone* is a thief doesn't mean it's cool for *anybody* to be a thief, for that matter.

You could have killed someone especially ranting away there on your phone; quite obviously not payng attention to the road as if you were you'd have seen the cop who was pulling your ass over!
