Today, I was outside searching for "treasures" with my son using small plastic shovels. All of a sudden he starts screaming. He dug up the bones of our old dog. I told him that we had sent him away to live on a farm, I even helped my son write letters to the farm owners. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was babysitting my little cousin when we decided to go outside and have a "treasure hunt" in the backyard. The first thing we found? The bones of her pet dog who had passed away four years ago. FML
Today, I told my daughter that we were going to the beach. Today, my daughter also tried to dig up our deceased dog, who we buried in our back yard last week, so he could come along. FML
Traumatic
Today, I sent my kids to play in the back garden and immediately heard them screaming. We buried our dog last week and last night some animal dug her up and spread the bones and rotting flesh around. The stench was horrendous, the kids are traumatized, and I vomited while reburying the bits. FML
Today, my new dog unburied my old dog and chewed on his bones. FML
Archeology
Today, I was digging the foundation for what will eventually be my garage. My kids wanted to help Daddy, which means they had a front row seat with their little spades when we unearthed the skeleton of some previous homeowner's dog. Now they won’t stop crying. FML
Today, I took my son for a walk to tell him about the passing of our family dog. As we were walking by the river, Ozzy (our deceased dog) was laying on the riverbank. My son thought he just ran away and we found him. Turns out my husband was too cheap to pay the 100$ vet disposal fees. FML
Today, while I was on a field trip with my son, my husband decided to get rid of our dog without asking anyone. Now I get to pick up the pieces of a broken heart, and he thinks he did nothing wrong. FML
Creepy backyard
Today, I found a pile of animal skeletons scattered in my backyard. It appears that last night, mother nature decided to rain so hard, that the graves of my childhood pets floated back up to the top, and covered half of my field. I now have to pick all of it up before my dog sees them. FML
Today, my dog died. My parents told me to bury it out back. In the process, I managed to dig up my cat. FML
Today, I realized burying my dog underneath our swing-set was a bad idea. My two sons are now scarred for life. FML

Perhaps you should have buried the dog further down... he must've been awfully close to the surface if your son was able to reach the bones with a plastic shovel.

And this is why we shouldn't lie to our kids about dumb stuff. They can handle the truth.

your son can't identify it is exactly your dog from digging up a few bones...just say it was a squirrel or something

uhmm.... maybe you should have had him digging somewhere else, or at least know better than to let him dig at all

Couldn't you have buried it farther or at least deeper? I'm sure we'd all appreciate to know what followed.

Way to lie to your kid. Ugh.

Cremation is a wonderful tool.

Just tell your kid about dying. It's not like a 5 year old can't handle something that's completely inevitable to all living things. I had plenty animals who died when I was younger, and my parents just told me about what happened. Sure, I was sad. But you shouldn't tell a lie because you're afraid your kid would get sad or is too young to understand. They shouldn't be shielded from something like this.

Death is something you NEVER lie about. It's an important lesson, and pets are the gateway to learning about this, because eventually, their grandparents are gonna meet the same fate, and you don't wanna go through every time I've heard "Why are they burying him, he can't (do what they usually do here) if you do that to him!" at their funeral. just tell him the truth, dont hide him from this kind of shit. telling him the truth will only make him stronger or when he grows up he'll be a real clueless wuss.

First of all, what kind of sick person lies to his or her son about that? Second, why the HELL were you digging where you buried the dog?? Your poor son. Not only does now know that his dog is dead, he knows that he can't trust his parent either.
