Today, I was outside searching for "treasures" with my son using small plastic shovels. All of a sudden he starts screaming. He dug up the bones of our old dog. I told him that we had sent him away to live on a farm, I even helped my son write letters to the farm owners. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was babysitting my little cousin when we decided to go outside and have a "treasure hunt" in the backyard. The first thing we found? The bones of her pet dog who had passed away four years ago. FML
Today, I told my daughter that we were going to the beach. Today, my daughter also tried to dig up our deceased dog, who we buried in our back yard last week, so he could come along. FML
Traumatic
Today, I sent my kids to play in the back garden and immediately heard them screaming. We buried our dog last week and last night some animal dug her up and spread the bones and rotting flesh around. The stench was horrendous, the kids are traumatized, and I vomited while reburying the bits. FML
Today, my new dog unburied my old dog and chewed on his bones. FML
Archeology
Today, I was digging the foundation for what will eventually be my garage. My kids wanted to help Daddy, which means they had a front row seat with their little spades when we unearthed the skeleton of some previous homeowner's dog. Now they won’t stop crying. FML
Today, I took my son for a walk to tell him about the passing of our family dog. As we were walking by the river, Ozzy (our deceased dog) was laying on the riverbank. My son thought he just ran away and we found him. Turns out my husband was too cheap to pay the 100$ vet disposal fees. FML
Today, while I was on a field trip with my son, my husband decided to get rid of our dog without asking anyone. Now I get to pick up the pieces of a broken heart, and he thinks he did nothing wrong. FML
Creepy backyard
Today, I found a pile of animal skeletons scattered in my backyard. It appears that last night, mother nature decided to rain so hard, that the graves of my childhood pets floated back up to the top, and covered half of my field. I now have to pick all of it up before my dog sees them. FML
Today, my dog died. My parents told me to bury it out back. In the process, I managed to dig up my cat. FML
Today, I realized burying my dog underneath our swing-set was a bad idea. My two sons are now scarred for life. FML

Perhaps you should have buried the dog further down... he must've been awfully close to the surface if your son was able to reach the bones with a plastic shovel.

And this is why we shouldn't lie to our kids about dumb stuff. They can handle the truth.

I agree, don't bull shit your kids if you ever want them to grow up to be strong enough to handle loss. I had my cat and dog both die within a month of each other and i helped bury them when I was 7 :( RIP Oreo And Zena!!

Its the parents who can't handle the truth, and instead of doing the right thing, even though its sometimes hard to do, they just hide things from kids and lie to them instead of taking the time to explain things. They'll even get upset if someone else tries to explain it to the kid. As if their lies are moral and telling the truth is mean or inappropriate.

I had a cat when I was really young, they had to put it down when I was 3, and my mom was honest to me about the situation. She didn't come up with some bullshit like most parents do to cover up the death of a pet, especially one that had to be put down.

Why would you be digging around an area where you know you buried the dog? And yeah, I agree with #3, it definitely should have been buried deeper down. good luck explaining that to the kid.

I doubt he needs to lie to the kid more than he has

yeah, then he will want to keep it. Who would want a bone from a dog of yours that passed away?

LIAAAAAARR!!!! what did you do? peel the grass and just like stomp the dog under that?? hahaha plastic shovels aren't too great for digging unless its like hawaii sand.

Well the only way to cover that up is to tell more lies which is the reason why you're in this situation in the first place. Just tell him the truth, he'll probably appreciate it.

Why is it sooo close to the surface? You obviously spent more time making up lies then actually giving the dog a nice send off... Well have fun explaining that
