Today, I told my boyfriend that I was going to stop drinking, since I have been having some problems with alcohol and some of my relatives are alcoholics. He later broke up with me, saying he couldn't be with someone who "chose to be boring." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Play it safe
Today, my girlfriend of three years dumped me because my refusal to go out drinking or get wasted at parties with her makes me "too boring". Thing is, I'm a recovering alcoholic. I'm over one year sober and I don't want to risk relapsing again, yet she expects me to choose between my health and her idea of fun. FML
I need one
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me because of my drunken antics. My reaction? Pour myself a stiff drink. FML
Today, my boyfriend of nearly 4 years, with whom I have a baby, broke up with me. His reason? His best friend said he didn't like drinking with guys who were "tied down". FML
Driven to drink
Today, I caught my boyfriend trying to dispose of several empty alcohol bottles, leading to a discussion how dating me and putting up with my insanity has given him a drinking problem just so he can get through the day. Me catching him seemed to be the wake up call he needed, because he dumped me. FML
Step one: admitting we are powerless
Today, I told my boyfriend that I was going to start controlling my drinking and he told me pretty much that he didn’t think I could do it. FML
TW: The final straw
Today, I broke up with my long-term boyfriend, because his alcohol problem is so bad that he drank his way through an old bottle of Tequila, which belonged to my mum, and that I'd kept after she committed suicide. FML
Twist in my sobriety
Today, my group of friends officially cut ties with me. According to them, my girlfriend "has me whipped" and made me "boring", all because she helped me break free from my alcoholism and finally get sober (two years and eight months running). They told me to call them when I'm "ready to be fun again". FML
Boozehounds
Today, my fiancé refused to talk to me because I'm "an alcoholic". I only started drinking like this after we moved in together and he brought me alcohol every day, because he's an alcoholic. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because I've been "spending too much time at the bar." I've been sober for 2 years. FML
Disappointing
Today, I was invited to a party, but I didn't attend because my boyfriend would be disappointed with me. Instead, I spent the night with him watching movies. At the end of the night, he broke up with me because I wasn't fun enough. FML

He is the boring one because he thinks you need alcohol to have a good time!

I'm sorry OP. Don't listen to that turtle dick. I know plenty of exciting sober people. Good for you for making an effort! Good luck!

He doesn't sound worth it, OP. Good for you to choose to do something that is good for you. Stay strong in not drinking.

OP does something for her own mental and physical well-being and her boyfriend dumps her. good riddance to him. Find someone better who actually cares for you.

This isn't an FML...all you have to do is realize that you deserve someone better, someone that will truly be caring and supportive. Once you realize that, you will feel much better, OP.

I respect your decision!! Yep, it's REALLY having a good time if you can barely walk, your words are slurring, you sound like a bumbling idiot, you're barfing your brains out, you begin lying on a public toilet and then talking to it, you might (sometimes) hookup with a STD infested fool, you could get alcohol poisoning, you pass out, you could pass out while barfing causing you to drown in your own throwup... Shall I continue? And when you're married and pregnant and you drink a lot and get drunk, you harm the baby, causing Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and an array of other problems. You could get your child taken away if things get to bad... So I respect your decision to be smart, mature, and healthy. He's not good enough for you anyway!! P.S.: Even Snooki quit drinking for her Baby!!

I have a feeling that the only people who dislike the comment "have a good time" themselves! Lol!

Everything I want to say has already been said, but just in case OP reads these and needs more encouragement: Good for you! Good for you for realizing you may have a problem, or may be on the way to developing a problem. Good for you for knowing that with your family history you're more likely to develop alcoholism. Good for you for knowing that you don't need to drink to have fun! I'm sorry you lost a boyfriend over this, but there are plenty of great people who understand that you don't have to be drunk to have a good time.

That is so rude. He should support you in your decision and help you when it's getting a bit hard to resist the bottle, not leave you...

**** him. Sobriety is for you, not for your friends or boyfriends.

You're doing the right thing by giving up on alcohol. Say goodbye to your enabler. He should be supporting you, not trying to drag you down. P.S. No one looks good swigging a vodka lemonade before driving...

Any guy like that is not much a loss.
