Today, I found out that my grandparents are going to take my car away and sell it because they're pissed I'm moving in with my boyfriend. FML

Thanksgiving
Questions about your love life, a burnt turkey and the cousin who knows everything: Thanksgiving, a contact sport.
Same thing different taste
Go away
Today, the day after my grandfather's funeral, my grandmother informed me I have 30 days to move out. I've been living with them for four years, helping take care of my sick grandfather. She's already changed the locks and won't unlock the door. FML
Dynasty
Today, my grandparents are demanding that I come live with them because my stepmom is pregnant. They're convinced that she and my dad are going to throw me aside once the baby is born, even though I know that's not going to happen. They're even making threats. FML
Today, I found out I will be without a car for two weeks because my mother volunteered to let my grandparents use mine while theirs is being repaired. They've been in 4 accidents over the last year. FML
Today, after being kicked out of my racist family, my boyfriend and I moved across the country to rent an apartment with my sister. My mother hates us so much she offered to buy my sister a new car to not take us in. FML
Gammy got game
Today, my grandma moved in with us. Along with her 36-year-old boyfriend that none of us knew about. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me at my grandma's funeral. FML
Freedom
Today, my parents left on vacation for the week. Taking advantage of my freedom, I was planning on having my boyfriend over. My grandparents just showed up as they "thought I would be lonely." I can't get rid of them. Looks like I'm not having any fun this week. FML
Come on, man
Today, my parents said that we're never going to see our grandparents again because my grandpa hit my asshole little brother with a belt for calling him a boomer. I love my grandparents so much but my parents won't listen. FML
Today, after telling my parents just exactly what I thought of them and that I was moving out, the person I was supposed to move in with called to say they'd decided they would rather live alone. FML
Get away from me
Today, I found out that my over-controlling parents would be moving in next door. I'm almost 23, and moved 5,365 km away to get away from them. FML

If it is legally not your car unfortunately they can do that. It does seem rather childish of them.

if your name is only one on the title they can't take and sell it.

You kids and your sense of self-entitlement. Grow the **** up. If you didn't put money into it, it's not yours. Unless it's your name on the title and registration, it's not ******* yours. Grow the hell up. All choices have consequences. Moving out before you own your own car means YOU DON'T GET TO KEEP IT, dumbass.

I guess the title is not in your name. They have the legal right I think. That totally sucks though.

Is the title in their name? If so there's nothing you can do. That sucks though.

if the car is in YOUR name they can't sell it they need your signature in order to switch owners

Wow... usually parents react this way when " their little girl is all grown up and moving away". Are you really close to your grandparents or something? Either way, don't let their actions influence your decision in moving in with your boyfriend, especially if that's what you really want. Worst case scenario, you save up some money with your bf. and get your own car :) Best of luck to you !

She must have been brought up by her grandparents, I guess

Or her grandparents just bought her a car and OP was still raised by their parents.

If you think you're old enough to move in together, you should be old enough to learn personal responsibility.. Such as getting your own car

Is the car in your name? If so then you are clear...

Hide the keys, they're old and won't be able to see them

If you're not old enough to buy/pay for your own cars, you're probably not old enough to move out with someone.

Just because her grandparents got her a car doesnt mean she isnt old enough to move in with her bf. My grandparents are well off, and bought me a car for my 16th. Im not entitled, just blessed with a giving family. I realized how lucky I was, howuch money they were saving me, and I kept that car until after I was married and had kids. I wasnt stupid enough to take on extra payments when I didn't have to. Its hard to know without more details, but OPs grandparents are the ones who are acting childish imo

But this makes it sound like she can't afford another one. In which case her grandparents may be giving, but feel she's not ready to move out on her own. In that case it's a good way to show her how to be responsible by either staying at home or buying her own stuff.

My mother is driving a car that's practically falling apart because we can't comfortably afford getting a new one. Should a 47 year old married mother of 2 move back in with her parent just because she can't have the added finical burden of a new car? Cars are no small chunk of change. Not being able to afford mil is one thing, and might indicate she shouldn't be moving out, but not being a able to afford a new car, which I doubt she factored in her budget since she thought she already had one? That's not really an indicator, since most independent adults would have trouble if they suddenly found themselves needed to cough up the money for a new car.

Just because you can't afford a car doesn't mean you're not ready to live on your own. A lot of people live on their own and function just fine with out cars.
