Today, I found out that my grandparents are going to take my car away and sell it because they're pissed I'm moving in with my boyfriend. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Go away
Today, the day after my grandfather's funeral, my grandmother informed me I have 30 days to move out. I've been living with them for four years, helping take care of my sick grandfather. She's already changed the locks and won't unlock the door. FML
Dynasty
Today, my grandparents are demanding that I come live with them because my stepmom is pregnant. They're convinced that she and my dad are going to throw me aside once the baby is born, even though I know that's not going to happen. They're even making threats. FML
Today, I found out I will be without a car for two weeks because my mother volunteered to let my grandparents use mine while theirs is being repaired. They've been in 4 accidents over the last year. FML
Today, after being kicked out of my racist family, my boyfriend and I moved across the country to rent an apartment with my sister. My mother hates us so much she offered to buy my sister a new car to not take us in. FML
Gammy got game
Today, my grandma moved in with us. Along with her 36-year-old boyfriend that none of us knew about. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me at my grandma's funeral. FML
Freedom
Today, my parents left on vacation for the week. Taking advantage of my freedom, I was planning on having my boyfriend over. My grandparents just showed up as they "thought I would be lonely." I can't get rid of them. Looks like I'm not having any fun this week. FML
Come on, man
Today, my parents said that we're never going to see our grandparents again because my grandpa hit my asshole little brother with a belt for calling him a boomer. I love my grandparents so much but my parents won't listen. FML
Today, after telling my parents just exactly what I thought of them and that I was moving out, the person I was supposed to move in with called to say they'd decided they would rather live alone. FML
Get away from me
Today, I found out that my over-controlling parents would be moving in next door. I'm almost 23, and moved 5,365 km away to get away from them. FML

If it is legally not your car unfortunately they can do that. It does seem rather childish of them.

if your name is only one on the title they can't take and sell it.

You kids and your sense of self-entitlement. Grow up. If you didn't put money into it, it's not yours. Unless it's your name on the title and registration, you don't own it. All choices have consequences. Moving out before you own your own car means YOU DON'T GET TO KEEP IT, dumbass.

You assume WAAAAY too much about a situation you basically know NOTHING about... Even if op didn't pay for it, it might be a gift. A gift is not something you take back later on, otherwise it would not be a gift or the conditions for said gift should have been made known beforehand. There is also NOTHING in the original post saying the grandparents actually own the car.

@24 Even if we accepted everything you say, which really isn't 100% in evidence, it is still a dick move to take away and sell the car someone is using as a form of petty revenge. Unless of course they had some really deep concerns and were trying to act in OPs protection (i.e. keep her away from an addict or abuser, etc), which for this FML we cannot even pretend is evident anywhere here.

If the grandparents don't own the car, how can they sell it? Your reading comprehension skills suck balls.

No for everyone. A lot of people get to keep the car their parents or grandparents bought for them when they move out. It just depends on the situation.

This may seem like a crazy idea... but try talking to them as one responsible adult to another? calmly without fighting and see how it goes. tell them how you feel what you think and why you want to move out. most likely they just want to keep you young and you have to think a little of their feelings while letting them know that your grown now and when you're grown this a step everyone eventually takes.

For all those saying that it's OPs fault, you don't know the circumstances. I'm 21 and about to move in with my boyfriend. My car is in my moms name for insurance reasons even though I'm the one who bought it. Any normal parent (or grandparent) Wouldn't do something like this. There could be any number of reasons the car was in the grandparents name. Just because it's not in OPs name doesn't make them irresponsible or not ready to move in with your boyfriend. Good Luck OP I hope all goes well for you.

Does that mean you are not listed as the principal driver for the vehicle? And yet you are the one driving it? Then that's fraud, regardless of how much you save in insurance.

I highly doubt OP is in a similar situation. Of course there's no way to be sure, but If OP NEEDS a car and her boyfriend doesn't have a car, or cannot make arrangements for her to use one, then perhaps OP isn't ready. "Ready" isn't just a sense of old or mature enough. If she can't move out without a car owned by someone else then maybe she shouldn't be on her own yet.

If you are too old to remember, let me remind you: the rate of car insurance for people under the age of 25 is exorbitant. To the point that a person over 25 who has been in an accident recently would pay less for equal coverage to an equal value car than someone under 25. While the grandparents may be paying for the car, or have in the past, they may also not pay for it. What is likely the OPs situation is that she is under 25, and in attempt to get cheaper insurance, one of the grandparents did her a favor and let her put it under their name. Now OP is moving out and in with her boyfriend, and the grandparents are upset because they either think she is not ready to move out or they don't approve of him. They realize the car is in their name, and since they have the legal power to sell it, they are using that as leverage.

lets not forget the fact that CARS ARE REALLY.******* EXPENSIVE. i kept the car my dad bought me for 6 almost 7 years and i only got a new car because it got totalled.

Don't call the OP a brat. I pay for my car completely, but it is registered in my parents name. I too would be mad if they took it.

If it is your name on the title and pay the insurane, they can't legally sell it or they will get arrested for selling stolen property.

My grandmother kicked me out and took a chip out of my truck because I got engaged. You're not alone.
