Today, I found out I will be without a car for two weeks because my mother volunteered to let my grandparents use mine while theirs is being repaired. They've been in 4 accidents over the last year. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Car brain
Today, I got woken up by my parents telling me I had to go buy a car so they could have transportation. Neither of their cars work, so I was letting them use mine, and then they wrecked it. It needs nearly a thousand bucks in repairs to be drivable again, but since it was my car, I have to replace it now to appease them. FML
It's all too much
Today, my car crapped out in the middle of the road, after over a year of only being able to find short contract jobs, all while juggling the grief of the back to back deaths of my mother and grandfather. FML
Three's the charm
Today, my car was broken in for a second time in a month and a half, and for the second time it's now Inoperable. I only got it returned from repairs two days ago. FML
Today, as I was about to leave home for my first sweet taste of freedom at my new apartment, my car died. I'm stuck here for at least the weekend and can look forward to my mom driving me to work. Freedom. FML
Today, my mom let my younger brother borrow my car. He managed to crash it through the garage door. While I was in another country. Somehow, I manage to get berated by my mom because I'm not doing enough to make my brother feel better about him having an accident involving my car and my house. FML
Today, I found out that my grandparents are going to take my car away and sell it because they're pissed I'm moving in with my boyfriend. FML
Thanks a lot!
Today, my girlfriend's dad let me borrow his car for transportation to work because mine got totaled. This car is a complete dump and I've realized he's only letting me use it so it's my fault to fix the broken things on the car. So far, I've had to replace the battery and two popped tires. FML
McSteamy
Today, I illicitly borrowed my dad's car to go to the store, but crashed into my mom's car as she and dad were returning from my grandma's house. Both cars are totalled, my mom is in hospital with a broken collarbone, and I realised dads really can make steam come out their ears if they’re really mad. FML
Today, I found out that my Mom had taken out a loan out on my car from the repo man taking my car away. FML
Independence day
Today, I got a text from my dad asking about my car in the shop. I'm trying to show them that I can actually be independent, but now they know that not only will it cost all my savings account to fix it, but also that my boyfriend will be driving me to work for the next month while the shop waits for the parts. Do you own the car? Then I would say no. "Sorry Mom made a promise I cannot keep. I hope you are able to rent a car, but I need my car."

So, two weeks without your car is the best-case scenario. My grandpa told me, "There are two things you never lend out: your car and your wife -- neither of them will come back the same!"

1 question and 1 comment....Is the car registered in YOUR NAME? if YES....REPORT IT STOLEN! if you are the registered owner and YOU DIDN'T give them permission to use it, then they are driving around in a stolen car. I know it is family but you have to do what you have to do.

Sure, it's logical, but could YOU call the cops on your own grandparents? I mean, maybe you're one of the few people who could, but most people online just talk big.

Your compassion and generosity is only exceeded by your audacity.

If I told my grandparents the situation and they still took it, you bet your ass I would call the cops on them. Just because they're family doesn't mean they get away with treating you like shit.

I would too.especially i don't let anyone drive my car.

That's just awful. The mother told the grandparents they could use it. Which means they might think their grandchild also okayed it. You don't just disrespect your own grandparents without having spoken to them. You can't just assume that they know you didn't consent when you haven't spoken to the about it. The mature thing to do would be to discuss it with them and then advise the mother that she cannot loan out a vehicle that is not hers. Now it's also possible that the car is registered to the mother but the daughter is the one who drives it. In that case the mother has the right to loan it out. More info needed from OP!

allie2590, yes I could, and yes I have.

If you let them continue to use it, then the real question here is: "Will you actually be getting your car back in two weeks?" Four accidents sounds like your car might not survive their horrible driving. Also, see if you can get a doctor to sign an official paper stating that they're not allowed to drive anymore. That is, if their accidents are due to the facts that they can't see as well, and/or that their reaction time is slow. My great grandmother isn't allowed to drive for both of those reasons. The roads are safer without those who have these issues.

I agree pops and mema can't drive anymore. if I had to I would move for two weeks and stay at a friends house. my grandmother was nearly blind no one would listen to me about it. then she drove into a drug store. Ty god no one including her was hurt, car was beyond repair.

I would be more worried about who the blame went on. If it was my car I say it was stolen and it may sound wrong but you can't ruin a young persons lifebecaude someone older decided to mess uo

Then you best tell your mom that she better lend them HER car, since she made the promise/offer and she can't just offer your car. The only person who can offer the use of your car is you.

Just how many ***** did you run thru before posting, I sincerely feel your pain. Tell your grandparents no, its for the best. You could also tell them why. Here's why: You spoke with your insurance company and given their recent track record, they won't temporarily insure them. I just went thru a similiar thing where my engine died on me and had to borrow my grandmothers 2nd car. She went thru her insurance (allstate) and my driving record is decent so I'm on her policy for a short period of time. So just tell em you'd like to help but unfortunately your insurance won't cover them if anything were to happen and you'd be held liable. If the situation persists insist they cover your car under their insurance...doubt they'd wanna do that tho cuz their premiums are prob super gnarly at this point but in all seriousness if they can't insure themselves then it becomes a legal issue. Best of luck on it all.

I don't think I'd ever lend my car to anyone. I hope you sort something, OP

I would let my Nan borrow my car as she let me use hers when I was learning. Key word there is "I". If your parents bought your car or have put a lot of money into it, though, then what can you do? It's not really "yours". If it is all yours then don't let people touch your shit!

Down-vote already from someone who drives a fiat 500 bought by Daddy no doubt haha. So predictable.

Actually, Ford Mustang. Bought it myself and no one ******* touches my car, bitch.

Remind her and them that she can't volunteer your property and say no. Done!

Your car or the one your parents bought and have been letting you use?
