Today, I decided to scare my 10 year old sister for fun. I hid behind a door and leapt out, shouting "Boo!" when she walked by. She burst into tears and ran screaming to my mom. My mom thought I'd hit my sister, and was so angry that she punched me in the eye. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my 7-year-old sister had a nightmare, so I let her sleep in my bed. I woke up to her punching me in the face and giving me a black eye. Apparently, she not only screams when she's having a nightmare, she also "gives the bad guy a taste of his own medicine." FML
Today, my uncle picked up a tissue box and threw it at my sister for fun. My sister got mad and yeeted the box at me. I reacted with the same action, but she lost her crap and kicked and punched me. When I reported the incident to my parents, I get berated and my sister got away with it. FML
Today, my little sister chased me around the house with a mallet, giggling like a maniac. I ended up having to pin her to the ground, rip the mallet out of her hand and lock her in the bathroom. This isn't the first time. My mom still insists it's perfectly normal. FML
Today, in the spirit of Halloween and to get back at a child who repeatedly pressed the doorbell until I showed up, I quickly opened the door and yelled "Boo!" The child ended up being carried away crying with wet pants by a mother threatening to sue. FML
Today, I thought it would be funny to sneak up on my dad while he was rummaging through his briefcase. He must have heard me, because the moment I got up close, he whirled around and yelled "BOO!" causing me to scream like a little bitch. FML
Today, I was in a store with my mom. I wandered off, then walked around looking for her. I spotted her, and decided to put on a ski mask to give her a scare for a laugh. I hid around a corner and yelled "BOO!" when I saw her. It wasn't my mom, and I'm now banned from that store. FML
Today, my 8 year-old little sister said, "F*** you" to my mom. My mom thought I told her to say that and grounded me for a month. Later, my sister came up to me and said, "Gotcha, bitch." FML
Today, my sister was taking forever in the bathroom, and I jokingly threatened to kick down the door. I rammed into it, and it actually bust almost off its hinges. My sister screamed and our parents came running. Now I'm grounded forever and our bathroom has no door. FML
Today, I tried to prank my little brother by jumping out from behind a door to scare him. I ended up scaring myself when I caught a glimpse of my weirdly-lit reflection in a mirror mid-jump. FML
Today, I was standing in the shower drying off when my sister came in the bathroom. She must have thought I was a burglar because she hit the shower curtain and punched me in the face. FML

Lol I think hitting your kids is fine. My dad hit me when I did something wrong when I was little and I learned not to do it again. And it obviously worked here - I bet the OP won't scare her sister again 'cause it'll come back around and punch him in the face. If you're old enough to post an FML you're old enough to know better than to scare a 10 year old. There are consequences, which you saw.

OK. I'm pretty sure it's been demonstrated many times that hitting a child to punish them doesn't really serve them well. When you hit a child or anyone you have authority over, it serves to generate fear, and not that fear is a good reason not to do certain things, it would be better to sit someone down and say look, you did this, hence here is a consequence, and allow them to reflect on it and learn from it. For example, with younger kids, that consequence could be time out - sit in a chair; for a teenager a restriction of some privilege. Hopefully this will allow the individual to realize that his or her actions weren't necessarily appropriate on their own. Hitting, on the other hand does a number of things. Shows that hitting is an exceptable way to deal with anger and other emotions. On top of that it just makes them fear the consequence instead of knowing that it may not be the right thing to do. When all you do is fear the consequence and nothing else, it can make you a manipulative and lying person, because all you want to do is just get away with a behavior, rather than know that it's wrong. Sorry for the long post.
