Today, after struggling with breastfeeding and trying to build up my milk supply, I was finally able to pump a full 6 oz! I celebrated by immediately spilling it all over my lap. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste

Today, I got pissed after my boyfriend tried mansplaining breastfeeding to me. I’ve nursed two children of my own, stocked and sustained two big freezers full, and still had leftovers to donate to preemies. He tried saying pumping "doesn’t increase supply" and that I just “got lucky” making so much. FML
Today, at work, I was taking a woman's measurements while she held her screaming baby. To silence the infant, she whipped out her breast right there and started feeding him. Moments later, he puked breast milk all over my desk. FML
Today, I tried an herbal tea that is supposed to increase your milk supply (I'm a breastfeeding mom). Well, it worked, and it kicked in at my office, but only on one side. So when I went into the bathroom, I noticed I had one boob WAY higher and bigger than the other. Great. FML
What a tit
Today, I stabbed myself in the nipple with scissors trying to cut an opening in the supposedly hands-free pumping bra I just bought. I breastfeed my 5-day-old. FML
Damp patch
Today, it was my first day back to work since having my first baby. To show I'd caught up on everything, I had to give a presentation at the end of the day to the heads of my department. It went really well until the end, when one of them pointed out that breast milk had been leaking through my clothes the entire time. FML
Today, I caught my pregnant wife trying to suck milk from her breasts. FML
Today, I went to the doctor's to find out why I was producing small amounts of milky liquid from my nipples, even though I'm not pregnant. When she asked me to show her, I squirted on her shirt. FML
Toxic workplace
Today, I quit my job because I wasn't given the time or space to pump for my newborn child. I went back to work 4 weeks postpartum, and they suggested I pump in the bathroom, my car or the freezer. FML
Classic mistake
Today, after I finished giving my baby a bottle then burping her, I lifted her up and was bringing her in for kisses. As I was doing this, I felt this warm liquid hit my lips and slide into my mouth. I instantly pulled her back and she'd vomited. It took everything out of me not to vomit myself. FML
Milkmaid
Today, when done feeding my newborn, I stated to my husband that I'm a cow. He said, in a sincere tone, "Oh, baby, you'll lose the weight soon." I meant cow because I'm producing so much milk. FML

Give it time, OP, and I guarantee you'll turn things around. After a while, you'll be able to control the fat content of the milk and produce 2%, 1%, and then fat free! Eventually, you might even master chocolate milk!

Awe no, that sucks! Hopefully you'll be able to pump more soon and maybe even more!

Agreed. I'm starting to notice a pattern in the stories published on this site…

I think your name adds irony. But in all seriousness, that sucks. Literally.

Having a top comment with six negative votes is probably the most impressive things I've ever seen

You're too easily impressed...

Maybe celebrate in a different way than spilling it. It'll help save you the trouble of cleaning it.

It's not like OP purposely spilled it -.-

Omg that's horrible. But you can do it again!

Me thinks formula might be the way to go here.

Why is this getting down voted? Some women just don't have the capacity to produce enough milk. Some even find it painful. supplementing with formula is often the only option.

If OP could get up to 6 oz once, she can do it again. It really sucks that a little mishap undid her hard work and accomplishment, but that doesn't mean she should give up now when she's just getting the hang of it. And the majority of a baby's immune system is built off of the antibodies/nutrients that only a mother can provide. Studies have shown that a formula-only diet leads to getting sick more often (their entire life), and increased chance to develop dangerous food allergies.

Updated studies that controlled for factors like parental income, education, involvement, etc. ...you know, the kind that did science right...have shown that the studies 20 is referencing are BS. As long as the kid is fed when it's hungry, it'll be just fine.

It just kinda rubs me the wrong way. At least to me it seems op really wants to breastfeed, for some mothers it's important to them. Saying you think they should give up after a disheartening moment, especially when there was just also a success, irks me a bit. If a mother chooses to use formula, including op, then that's up to them. I guess I just think we should encourage op for whatever choice rather than say give up.

I dont think the original commenter meant it that way, even though it may seem like they were discouraging the OP. And I would never try to discourage a mother from breastfeeding, all I meant was unfortunately for some mothers, formula is their only option because they can't produce enough milk or any milk at all.

I couldn't produce enough. Especially after the NICU bottle fed them. How can I ever catch up. He was consuming much more than he would have on day one with me alone. Anyway, had to supplement. But I gave my babies that one lonely ounce before the bottle of formula as long as I could. I feel for you OP. It can be such a difficult thing to grasp and was frustrating for me because there was never enough. Stick with it sweetie. Sorry for the heartache of those 6 Oz. Pretend you had to pump and dump for medication reasons or something. Might feel a little better. Good luck!

Thank you sazarath, and thank you smart people who are familiar with how to do research (you know who you are). If she wants to try breastfeeding, as long as the kid isn't going hungry, she can try. Im aware their is a psychological component to this, although as a guy my understanding is admittedly limited. With that said, if she's having difficulty producing enough milk to feed her kid, than it seems to me that formula would be the next most logical step. It's not like im saying just give up because it's hard, im saying try something else because your kid needs to be fed, and that takes priority.

To build up my supply I pumped every hour and ate a lot of oatmeal, I was able to pump a whole 10oz from each boob very fast because of that but I ended up not being able to give my kid my milk because she was allergic. So... maybe try pumping every hour

I have a 3 month old and I breastfeed too. I don't know how you found the time to do that every hour. Please tell me your secret.

I feel like chocolate milk is more difficult than strawberry milk. She should set realistic goals and aim for strawberry milk first, THAN go on to chocolate milk.

I myself struggled with breastfeeding for quite a while and getting that much is actually a great accomplishment because it is definitely hard! I spilled it and I actually cried because it took me very long to get that much. just keep trying you can do it. I unfortunately had to switch to formula because my milk supply did not keep up with my son's eating but I know you can do it it's very hard just don't give up. good luck!

Sorry that that happened to you OP. Maybe look into eating foods that your baby isn't allergic to that also help produce breast milk! Drinking a lot of water might help too.
