Never touch the Xbox
Today, I turned off my boyfriend's Xbox while he was playing because I wanted to talk to him about getting more serious with our relationship. As I did so, he said, "That's not the only thing you just turned off" and promptly broke up with me. FML

Honestly that would piss me off, but gaming is my hobby. You could have been mature and just asked him to pause his game.

I never understand stuff like this. Its so disrespectful, your partener, spouse boyfriend/ girlfriend whatever is not a naught child. You don't turn other peoples sh** off. I'd never turn my husbands game off and he'd never snatch a book out of mine(my equivalent to a game). Its just so rude, even if she'd asked him to talk. However him being so quick to break up probably means he was done anyways. But in the the future I'd wait to have serious conversation s when someone isnt busy.

YDI you could have at least waited until he was done. When you want to have serious talks with your partner, it's important to give a heads up or choose the appropriate time to have a discussion. You don't force them to stop what they're doing or expect them to participate immediately. Keep in mind, even if you communicate properly, you still can't force the other person to do anything. There's always the possibility that the other person won't want the same things as you- the point is to get on the same page about what you both want and work with it. If you want someone to take you seriously, don't behave like a demanding child, learn to be considerate, learn to communicate, and take relationships more seriously yourself

Okay this is just my take on this, but here's what I got. You don't mention anything about the conversation beforehand, so I have no idea if you were trying to talk and felt ignored, or if you simply decided what you had to say was more important than his game. Either way, especially since you were wanting to get serious with the relationship and this ended it instead, I would say you failed your goal. Secondly, you say "want to get more serious," which implies that things were a bit more casual beforehand. By that logic, you SHOULD be learning to know and expect the other person's hobbies and interests. Dating a gamer means accepting that this is a part of their interests, and respecting it to the same degree that you would want your own hobbies and interests respected. This ultimately wasn't much different from, for example, grabbing a book out of your hands and tossing it away, potentially damaging it, or pushing over a painting or sculpture you were working on, or anything else where the hobby is abruptly stopped and potentially wrecked. Especially from someone who I had not fully committed to, I would have dumped you as well, because you very clearly are not respecting my interests and property if you are doing that sort of thing already. It might be different if I was ignoring you beforehand, but not by very much.

How would you feel if you were in the middle of an activity or a hobby of some sort, and somebody ripped you away from it because they wanted to do something that can wait another time? If I were in the middle of something (whether a video game or reading a book) and somebody shut off the game, snatched the book out of my hands, etc. because they wanted to talk about something that can wait, I'd be pretty pissed too. What she did was immature and childish, it's also controlling. And it's ironic that she wants to talk to him about their relationship, yet she did something that exists in an unhealthy relationship, people who think they can control their partners and get them to do whatever they want, when they want, so all the more reason she deserved to get dumped. tl;dr: She rudely interrupted him in the middle of his activity to talk about something that could've waited. She deserved what happened to her.

That was an agressive way of trying to have a conversation.

You tried to start a relationship conversation by pissing off your boyfriend? YDI

What, you couldn't have waited until dinner time?

That is pretty selfish and immature on your part. Just because you "wanted to talk" doesn't mean he did. You could try apologizing and not being so needy in the future.
