Today, my boyfriend dumped me, all because he's scared of my mother. FML
Today, while on a date with my boyfriend, he broke up with me. The reason why? Because I took a dump in his bathroom and "that's inappropriate for girls." FML
Today, I broke up with my boyfriend. Feeling bad, I texted him a few hours later apologizing. He said it was fine and that he went ahead and picked up a girl from the mall. FML
Today, while sitting next to me, my boyfriend sent a text to one of his "friends" saying, "I'm thinking of you." FML
Today, I was dumped. I ran home and cried and ranted on and on to my mother. After about 10 minutes of talking, she threw a book at my face and said, "No wonder he dumped you! You can't shut up!" FML
Today, I was at my boyfriend's house waiting to surprise him when he got home from work. I was laying in his bed when he called to tell me we were over. I couldn't leave before he got home. FML
Today, I got a text from my ex-boyfriend that said, "I love you." Thinking this meant he'd changed his mind about breaking up with me less than 24 hours before, I replied back excitedly. Turns out that was a text sent last weekend that didn't go through until now. What great timing. FML
Today, I went on a date with a guy I had been talking to online for weeks. When I showed up, he looked nothing like his profile picture, and he spent the entire time talking about his ex-girlfriend. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me. It's OK, though, she says we can still go on the vacation I planned next month for our 3 year anniversary, just "as friends." The tickets are non-refundable. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 2 years told me he had feelings for someone else. He also told me he wanted to continue dating me until things progressed further with the other woman. FML

He may not have known that OP was going to see him. OP could have been planning to surprise him. It is a pathetic way to break up with someone and he definitely should have done it to OP's face, instead of having his mom do it through facebook.

He can't exactly do it face to face since they don't even live on the same continent. Sure it was bad to get his mom to do it for him, though for all we know his mom could have just done it on her own. And if he had known about the trip it's much better to break up beforehand than wait until after OP is there and make the entire trip extremely awkward. At least OP doesn't have to go through that.

What a ******* coward, you probably dodged a bullet there OP, though I would probably check with him first just to make sure he actually DID tell her to do that, I've met some pretty insane possessive women over their sons. She might have done it on her own knowing you were coming.
