Never touch the Xbox
Today, I turned off my boyfriend's Xbox while he was playing because I wanted to talk to him about getting more serious with our relationship. As I did so, he said, "That's not the only thing you just turned off" and promptly broke up with me. FML

Honestly that would piss me off, but gaming is my hobby. You could have been mature and just asked him to pause his game.

You completely deserved that. "Let's have a serious discussion about getting more serious. Let me do a really childish thing! Now mature talk!" Glad to see that he had some sense and got out of there, learn from your mistake OP. For those of you not gamers, it would be like being in the middle of a movie or show and you SO turned the tv off. Not cool

More like you're in the middle of your show and your SO turns it off and deletes it from the DVR. Yeah, you can find when it's on again, record it again, and get back to where you were eventually, but you can't just have your conversation then pick up where you left off.

So you start a conversation with him by disrespecting him. Great move.

I'd do the same. Don't do that

I'm hoping there's more to this, like maybe you were trying to talk with him for an hour and he was blatantly ignoring you or something. Because if you just walked up and turned off the game with no warning because you decided you wanted the attention, that's incredibly disrespectful and self-centred and I don't blame him for his reaction at all.

Clearly he loved his Xbox more than you.. let's see if you get invited to the wedding!

It's not cool to switch off an Xbox while a game is in session, maybe breaking up is a bit too harsh, but I'd be downright pissed.

it's not about "a man and his xbox". it's honestly rude; the way op worded it sounds like she just walked up to the xbox and shut it off with no warning so they could do what she wanted with no regard for what the bf was doing first. if someone didn't respect me enough to ask me to talk instead of just forcing me away from my current activity i'd probably break up with them too

I read this as she was trying to have the discussion for a while, and he kept putting it off, or ignoring her. For me it seems logical that he already didn't care about the relationship, therefore she was pushing it, and that only made him more unhelpful. Eventually she got fed up and turned off his videogame, and he used it as an excuse to break things up. I've been in this kind of scenario (minus the videogame part), and for me it worked when I decided to basically say "screw it" for the relationship. I decided to let it go, enjoy when we were together, and prepare myself for being single. I started doing my own things, going out with friends, etc. and it worked wonders! My boyfriend was then interested in me, and we are now happily married.

Where did you get all this from? All it says is turned off his Xbox because I wanted to talk." I'm pretty sure that if she'd been trying to talk to him for a while, she would have mentioned it.

You're basically adding things to the fml to suit what fits in your head "the guy's totally has to be at fault here because the guy was at fault in my experiences and I really want to relate"

Wow, butthurt gamers! Never seen those before! I'm not even defending the girl, I'm actually saying something pretty "unfeministic": nagging gets her nowhere.

#163 you're being more of a devil's advocate than even I would, but regardless - the reason why 'screw it' worked for you is because you didn't get what you needed from your relationship, so you left to find another way to fulfil your needs. You didn't leave to get back at him or to 'punish' him, you left for your own sake. And that's fine, that's mature, and healthy, and actually respectful. He saw that, and he saw how happy you were, and wanted back in. It's happened many many times. What this girl did was the opposite of that, so you don't have to (and nor should you) defend her actions.

You ever stare up into the night sky and wonder if someone's looking back at ya?

Dude has his ******' priorities straight, man. You can't just turn off his Xbox without expecting something just as bad in return
