a) lock the damn door. it's an apartment building, not a dorm. b) even if you leave the door unlocked so your friends (who possibly live down the hall) can come by whenever they want, a la the show FRIENDS, refer to step a and lock the damn door when having sex. c) why does your mom have a key to your apartment anyway? every apartment i've ever lived in has given me exactly one key to my place. d) assuming you made an ILLEGAL copy of said key (because you're not the owner of the unit, and all keys are supposed to revert back to the leasing company when you move out, given that they don't change the locks) in case you ever lost your key and gave it to your mother, why has she not yet learned to call before coming over? it's still a surprise to say "hey, i'm in your neighborhood, let's get dinner". you are probably in your twenties. it's time your mom learned to respect your space. e) no one puts a sock on the door in an apartment building. that's strictly a dorm thing. have some class.

Sock on the door meant nothing when I went to college, and I'm 23. So, I think it depends on the school. Anyway, OP completely deserves it for being such an idiot and using college rules in an apartment building. Time to grow up. It's also a YDI for either leaving the door unlocked or letting your mom have a key to your place. I'd never give my mom a key to my apartment. Then again, my mom has better manners than to just walk in. She always calls before she stops by and she always knocks. Plus, I always keep my door locked. I have never understood people who get caught having sex. What's so hard about locking doors?
