To this and all the other people insulting the OP...

I guess, most of you aren't cat-owners. I, however, am. And I really care for them. But I still can't - or don't want to blame the OP for the death of her cat.
First of all, cats are (unlike children btw) able to look after themselves. They usually do anyway - although they depend on their humans especially concerning food (to a certain degree). That's when they complain - because they are hungry or want "pettins" or something like that. It's not exactly a sign that they are sick or in pain. My cats complain all the time - especially since I moved away and my mom started to spoil them...but if they are sick, they behave completely different. They actually stop complaining, retreat somewhere quiet and tend to avoid us. Unless we find them and take care of them...they seem to like that. You can notice that a cat is sick, because she behaves different, not because she meows. Shit, if everytime they meowed like hell, I brought them to a vet, the vet would be a millionaire now.
Even if a cat purrs, it doesn't automatically mean she's comfortable. Even dying cats purr, sometimes even if they are bleeding to death after being hit by a car.

This being said, it is completely understandable that you just don't have the patience and energy to fulfill all your cats wishes. Sometimes you just want them to fuck off and hunt mice...for example when you are working on that important paper and the cat decides that the keyboard is a good place to nap. Or whilst cleaning your room...and so on. Sounds cruel? Maybe. But you can't just watch them and care for them 100% of the time. If you'd do that with your kids, one would call you overprotective. And cats are - unlike kids - able to take care of themselves.

Oh, and...cats don't say goodbye...

I agree ; i mean seriously the story could've gone
' I cuddled and petted my cat all day and then it died'
but almost everybody ignores their cat when theyre busy.
and for everyone that says the OP isnt feeding or taking care of it
they probably are and it just died because it was sick
otherwise she wouldve been complaining for days because of thirst or hunger
i mean seriously
her cat dies
this happens all the time

subtext speaks truth. You're my new FML hero :]

Unless the cat had the 'third eyelid' or showed other signs of sickness, there was no way of knowing. Cats are very good at hiding their pain. Mostly when they are truly sick they go off by themselves. It might have been sudden.

I had a cat I dearly loved die in my arms. Spent a huge chunk of change trying to save her. On October 11th 2005 @ 8:15am she passed. Her respiratory breathing slowed down and I knew she was dying right then. In between her gasps, she murmured a few purrs. I held her tight and tried to ease her confusion, whispering how much she meant to me. It was very traumatic. I don't know which experience is worse. Finding or being there. Regardless, she was a dear friend and her death was devastating.

This may seem funny, but this sounds like my friend. She had a cat and loved it vary much. However, it seemed to want petting time when she was usually doing homework or was too busy to take a kitty break. Well, after a few months she saw that her beloved cat was too sick to live and had to be put down. She felt just as bad for her cat and asked herself many times over why she did not stop and play. Don't be upset. You had no idea of knowing your cat would die. If you had, I am sure you would have pet it.

you're a fucking bitch. you think you know the whole story through 5 lines? in the last ten years i've had four cats die, not one of them "tried to say goodbye." they sneak off somewhere to die alone to keep disease spread to a minimum. this is something that 99% of animals do. most likely the cat had a sudden heart attack or stroke and wasn't sick at all. fucking retard.

#245 - On 09/13/2009 at 1:58am by Casualt1234

(-2)

hmmm.... let's see here. your "insults" are based on nothing, whereas my observations are based on the fact that you advertise your myspace account on every comment.

#247 - On 09/13/2009 at 2:03am by Casualt1234

(-1)

nice logic. "insults are based on observations." so if i called you a cow-fucking turd burglar, would that be based on observation?

and whatever, you can keep on trying to get noticed on the internet and keep telling yourself that people care about you.

again, nice comeback. "oh you're just saying that I'm (insert insult) because YOU'RE the one who's (insert the same insult)" yeah i remember hearing that tactic like 12 years ago.

again, you can advertise your pathetic life. keep telling yourself that your internet friends are "real friends" when in reality, you cry yourself to sleep when you think about your incredible loneliness.

keep the signature for all i care. who knows? maybe one of your myspace friends will meet you one day and you can start a cult and organize a mass suicide. who knows what the future holds?

#254 - On 09/13/2009 at 2:22am by Casualt1234

(-2)

Dude, why bother arguing with him? So what if he thinks you're ugly, he's the faggot who can't make friends in real life setting i.e. school, neighborhood, etc., so he has to try adding random people form FML.

He also states FML is 'stamped on certain peoples' heads'. What about yours, mister? Advertising your MYSpace to add random 'cool people' is pretty much an FML. Also, in case you didn't know, people DO tend to lie. When you get the 18-year-old Gina from Idaho, you just might be getting 37-year-old pedophile Andrew from Ohio.

I know that feeling. My cat came home missing his 2 front feet. It was the saddest, worst feeling ever finding him on my be like that I was devastated. There was nothing anyone could do for him. He must have been in SO much pain but to still come home to me-because he thought I could help Im sure! When I found him he purred... (of course I cried heaps!) I feel for this person-Because she didnt get to say goodbye to her cat AND the last thing she did was 'mean'. She probably feels guilt ridden!

(-2)

"Actually that tactic of 12 years ago still applies to you apparently, I guess not everyone's balls drop after so long. It's ok I'll try and stay at your lower level :)"

^^^ you just basically proved my point. you take what people say and throw it right back at them. real original. and TJ, I'm not insulted that he compared my face to medusa (starchild just learned who that is from his history class since he's in the 6th grade). I'm "arguing" with him because he's too much of a dumbass to realize that he's pathetically reaching out to strangers on the internet to be his friend.

"You're very cute for sticking up for your boyfriend though :) Do you guys live in San Francisco?"

^^^^ again. is that the best you can manage? a gay lover insult?

grow up, kid. only desperate retards publicly advertise their myspace profiles on places like FML. don't come crying to us when your bunghole is violated by someone who you thought was a "real good friend" you met on the internet.

Im soo sorry that would suck :(

#271 - On 09/13/2009 at 5:01am by MaxSpeed

Okay...so not that I know starchild at all...BUT just out of curiosity because I've seen him comment on here a lot and sometimes I just like to see who those people are, I've been to his myspace profile before and read through it...and it says he's in the Navy, so Casualt1234 I HIGHLY doubt that starchild is living a "pathetic life" as you claimed in one of your replies...his life probably has a lot of meaning aside from friends.

Also, I've always had my myspace URL on my profile here, because before they added the messaging feature to FML it was so totally anonymous and I hate when people think they can insult others and that they're so awesome...simply because of the fact that the other person wasn't able to talk back. If I say something that pisses someone off they can message me and bitch about it...it's a simple as that.

FOR FUCK SAKES you make me so fucking mad i bet you anything you starve your cats and kick and beat them all the fucking time...you are such a fucking cunt. if you hate your cat that much bring it to the shelter and give it a decent home. its probably fucking miserable being with you and getting kicked out of the way when you have an "important paper" and telling it to fuck off when really you are probably crying and watching porn because you are pathetic and sad and live a loney and depressing life.

My cat constantly wants attention. To the point that he'll jump on your lap while you're taking a crap. Then he'll have moments where he'll just meow to here himself talk. I go and check on him and he'll just look at me. He doesn't want anything. His food and water are full. He just makes noise for the heck of it. I give him plenty of attention and play time.

Cats are weird. You can't assume to OP is a bad pet owner just because his cat is really needy. People are allowed to be preoccupied with something else every once and a while.

Domesticated animals are never a good thing. These animals were meant to stay in the wild and not under stupid human controls... I can understand dogs as a domesticated animal (gaurd dog, blind assisting dog etc.) but cats...

How are they a bad thing?
They get food and shelter from you, you get affection and companionship from them.
Both of my cats are strays that were abandoned by their previous owners.
They are both much happier with a home and people who love them.

Domesticated animals don't do so well in the wild... There is also plenty of information on the damage feral animals do to ecosystems, so setting domesticated species free is definitely not helping anyone.

Ingrid Newkirk? Is that you?

Also, I feel like the OP should have maybe suspected the cat was having a problem...maybe giving it some milk or something would have helped. Depends what the problem was I guess. Ignoring it would not have been on my to do list, though.

#243 - On 09/13/2009 at 1:53am by TheOtherNewest1

(+2)

Obviously your not a cat owner. If you were, you'd probably know that milk would not have helped the cat out at all and could have very well caused more harm than good, depending on the cat. Most cats are lactose intolerant after they are weaned and even if they weren't, milk has no nutritional value for them and should only be given as a treat.

Also, if you were a cat owner, you'd know that cats can meow a lot. I don't like ignoring my cat but at times when I'm doing work or if I'm just getting tired of his weight on my stomach, I'll push him away and ignore him. Just because you're cat meows a lot, it doesn't mean something's wrong. It could just mean he wants to be petted but that's not always possible if you're busy or trying to sleep.

On the other side of this, when my cat was actually sick, I knew fairly quickly. And before you ask, no, it wasn't from constant meowing. Actually, it was because he wasn't bothering me at all that I knew something was wrong. That's right, wasn't. He was sick to the point of being dehydrated and all he did was lay around. He didn't become dehydrated because I didn't give him water, he just didn't drink it.

Cats are not children. They do not need constant attention and are very independant. Half the time, I don't even know where my cat is. But I do love him and care for him and when I'm able to, give him more than enough attention.

OP did not deserve this at all.

I think this was phrased in a really bad way, but I also think that everyone is being a bit crazy. I'm obsessed with my animals, I love them to pieces, but to be honest sometimes I have to get stuff done and can't have them climbing all over my computer screen. I've pushed them away. Anyone who owns animals knows they cant pet them ALL the time.

That being said, I think you should know the difference between a "I'm bored, play with me!" and a "I'm dying, help!" meow.

I understand you want people to be respectful towards the OP, and the website asks that we write respectfully... but if the OP truly felt bad enough, I doubt she'd write this. You'd think she'd be too torn up inside and sad to post it on a website full of silly stories. She knew she'd get verbally abused for this, so I find it hard to believe she's truly sad about her cat.

#36 - On 09/12/2009 at 7:42pm by Amkii

(+2)

Maybe it's a few months/years after it happened and OP has moved on enough, or it happened to somebody else and OP thought it'd make a great FML. Or it could be fake.

I agree with #28, #44 and #46. I love my dogs and our family (myself included) takes care of them all the time, but sometimes we're busy with stuff or are just not in the mood to play. Just because a person isn't compassionate and perfect all the time doesn't mean that they're a "selfish whore" or starved them.

Although I can't stop everyone judging and I'm not stupid enough to try, we technically can't decide whether OP is good or bad based on one action. People are a lot more complex than that.

Whether you're good or bad, that sucks OP. Not to be rude, but I'm glad I'm not you.

#67 - On 09/12/2009 at 8:15pm by redblueviolet

(-1)

To #32.

No, not at all.

FML is a comical site. You'll notice that if you submit a truly horrible story, like you just got raped or your mom's kidney transplant didn't go through and she died, it gets rejected.
The fact that this woman submitted this FML means she found it was funny, and that jackasses moderating it thought the same. They're collectively disrespecting the memory of the kitty that the woman failed to give assistance to already.

She deserves every single comment she's getting, not only for what she did, but for the worse even reaction of finding it had "funny potential" enough to submit it to a comical site for heartless people to have a laugh at the death of a kitty.

Stories like "My ex caught me cheating because I did something dumb" are funny, but the death of a kitty is NOT, and should never be. For thinking it was, the OP deserves all out comments about her having no sensitivity.

YOU EVIL CAT KILLER!
Seriously though, most cats will shut up unless they're hungry. Try to pay attention to your cat. But I know it can be hard, not speaking the same language or anything. Really, FYL.

#33 - On 09/12/2009 at 7:34pm by Emma_91

(0)

Next time, pay better attention to your pet(s)... aka the animal(s) YOU CHOSE to have live with you. The one(s) you basically vowed to take care of and protect. The innocent creature(s) that depend(s) on you. However, if your cat died that soon, even if you'd paid attention to him when he was meowing, you probably couldn't have done anything in time to save him, and neither could a vet, probably, even if the vet were inside your house. Unless he was choking, there are no drugs or magical cures out there that could work that fast. And clearly he wasn't choking, because he was able to meow. BUT, if you'd paid better attention to your cat all along, you would have probably noticed something was wrong. Honestly, OP, if you're not going to pay good enough attention to your pet(s), please do not get any more ever again!

#34 - On 09/12/2009 at 7:38pm by Amkii

(+1)

Wow, way to be extremely assuming. What if the cat was elderly? Or died suddenly of some sort of organ failure? I've had a perfectly healthy cat that I took to the vet six days earlier that died of a heart attack. The vet said she was extremely well too, so even if you pay attention and tend to your pet well some unfortunate things are bound to happen. Just because one of these things may of happen, it does not mean the OP is uncaring or unfit to be a pet owner. The cat wanted to be near its owner near the end, so it's pretty clear they took care of it enough to form some sort of trust and bonding.

I'm sorry about your cat...everyone saying OP deserved it, there's NO way she could have seen it coming. It's annoying when a cat constantly meows, trust me. Sometimes they don't even want a pat, it's like a baby who just needs to cry.

#44 - On 09/12/2009 at 7:52pm by CFR

(0)

I agree, I have three cats and while I love them all dearly, my one cat Momo is just VERY vocal. He cries when he has food and water. I can't understand why he cries and I will say that I'll push him away if I'm trying to work. Even my other two cats will cry for attention in the middle of the night. They have food and water and a warm place to sleep. It doesn't make me or this person a bad human being or an animal abuser because we ignored our cats to get some work done. Besides, how many times do our cats ignore us during the day?

#284 - On 09/13/2009 at 9:44am by xxemoxqueenxx

(+2)

Shit, did PETA collectively comment on this or something? Just because you ignore a cat for a few hours does not make you a "monster" or a horrible person. For all we know the OP was trying to get something done and didn't have the time to play with her cat right at that moment. It's not as if she had neglected the cat or starved it for days or weeks. Granted we don't have all of the facts and can't say for sure, but don't just jump to conclusions and assume that the OP is some evil person who abuses animals or sacrifices the neighborhood pets simply because she brushed her cat off for a few minutes.

That said, I'll admit that I've never owned cats and wouldn't know the difference between a "play with me" meow and an "I need help" meow.

@ the OP: wow, that really sucks.

#61 - On 09/12/2009 at 8:07pm by Vacant

There's a HUGE difference between "I want more food/attention" mewing and "help me, I'm badly sick" mewing.

If she has a cat the difference between anguished mews and just asking for attention is VERY big. (Aside from the fact the cat was probably sick for a while and the OP never realized...)

I hate the PETA deeply, and yet I think the OP is heartless for not caring enough to quickly check why the cat sounded so desperate. A visit to the vet would have been nice too.

(+1)

Except for the fact that cats usually don't meow if they are actually hurt or sick, there's no difference between a "I'm hungry", "I'm bored" or "Open the fucking door, bitch!" meow.

(Incessant) Meowing is how cats "try" to communicate with humans because they are intelligent enough to get that most of us don't understand their body language.

So? If it was a member of your family would you say, "It's just a person"?

#92 - On 09/12/2009 at 8:59pm by po_ta_to

(0)

There're two problems with that. If a person had something wrong with him/her, he/she would SAY something's wrong. And as many people have said, cats take care of themselves for the most part, so it's not at all comparable to, say, a baby, or a small child. And even small children, sometimes, must be told "Not right now" or "I'll help you later" unless it's something serious. OP didn't know it was serious, probably thought the cat just wanted attention and was too busy to shower it with loving attention. It's not her fault.

FYL. God, people, you say she's an emotionless monster, but you have absolutely no compassion if you're tearing at her for something she couldn't have prevented, something she obviously feels bad about. So fuck off.

The cat was being annoying. Don't tell me that you've never pushed away your pet if you're busy and they're just coming up and being whiny and nagging for pats all the time. How was she supposed to know it was dying? It is absolutely no indication of neglect, or that she would abuse a child or not be able to look after a child or another pet.

Maybe something was already wrong with the cat, but she didn't know he was going to die, and she very possibly wishes she could go back and spend the last few minutes with her cat. She didn't KNOW, she can't be blamed.

She didn't know, because she didn't bother to check.

Cats don't magically up and die. He was sick, she didn't care enough to find out, he died, she found it funny enough to post it on a comical site.

She's a bitch, and the cat's life is over.

I don't see why you defend someone who found this tragic event funny enough to post on a comical site. Se has no respect for the cats' life.

aww. that's sad. but you could've at last paid some attention to it even for a little bit. that's like my mom when she was younger, her dog had fleas so she decided to spray it with bug spray. then the dog went to her room and was scratching the door and whining then when she opened it, she found the dog dead.

Cats don't make odd mews a lot when there sick or hurt. They may seem fine, then,a few hours later when everyone is at work or school, the cat may die.You may think everything is fine, but you will never know unless your a vet.Or really smart.Or know a lot about about cats.

#120 - On 09/12/2009 at 9:30pm by Neoswords

(0)

Neoswords, having a cat and caring makes that someone can tell the difference between a random "give me attention" mew and an anguished "I need help" one.

If you can't tell them apart at all, and it's your cat, then it means you don't care enough, or by now you'd know the difference.

No one deserves that. Seriously. We've all done this to our pets at one point, whether we're busy or just in an irritable mood. The OP will have to live with the hurt, guilt and regret for years and years to come, and she has my absolute and utmost sympathy. Virtual hugs coming your way, OP.

#117 - On 09/12/2009 at 9:28pm by westbrookx

(+1)

One question.....

How was the OP supposed to know that the cat was in any sort of pain just by hearing it meow. That could easily mean a whole set of things: The cat could be in heat(unless it's spayed), want to play, etc. Most of the time cats want to be pet and it's very annoying. Is the OP a horrible or neglectful person because she wasn't in the mood to play? No. It means she's human. There are times that we don't wanna be bothered.

#124 - On 09/12/2009 at 9:37pm by painandpeace

(0)

An anguished "help my, I'm dying" mew sounds very different from "hey, give me tuna!" mews.

Are you all that really fucking retarded about cats? if a cat meows all the time it either wants attention or is hungry/Thirsty and considering that the owner cares deeply for the cat so it probably wanted attention. if the cat was dying it would have stop meowing and went into a corner to avoid the owner instead of constant bothering

Don't judge before you know

#181 - On 09/12/2009 at 10:54pm by Syrathia

(0)

People here really are dumbasses. The cat was incessantly meowing, so of course the OP should magically understand his meows/assume he was dying or something? People saying how could they not tell the cat was trying to get their attention because it's sick obviously think cats are human babies or something, who say when their hurt. When cats are sick, they might meow forcedly, or go off into some corner and not really meow at all. When they're healthy, they usually meow incessantly, like in this - the OP couldn't have known this meowing incident would be the last time the cat tried to get their attention.
Also, how the hell do you assume that they don't feed the cat or whatever, or don't care for it? They probably thought the cat just wanted some attention and were too busy or not in the mood to devote their attention to petting the cat - that doesn't make them a horrible person, or someone who never took care of the cat. From what we have here, they really couldn't have forseen it, or prevented it.

Please, please NEVER have another pet! You completely ignore when your cat is in distress, to the point that he/she's suffering enough to die? You don't deserve another cat, dog, rat, or anything else. Do animals a favor and keep away from them, much less own another.

And I agree that you should never have children, either, because they require even more care.

Initially there was no reason for you to ignore it like that. You love it, don't you? I know sometimes they can be annoying, but c'mon...

Now... it depends on your cat, but the tone of the FML suggested your cat doesn't often do this. If you knew that, then you shouldn't have ignored your cat. Obviously it was trying to tell you something.
"Hold me I'm not feeling well" then it dies
or "Hey I'm not feeling well give me attention [and possibly realize I'm dying]" then you take it to the vet... (not a gaurantee it wouldn't die, though)

And you call it your cat, yet you couldn't read the signs that lead to this? I mean, even if it was just something sudden... surely if you really liked this cat you would have noticed something out of the ordinary?

You guys are fucken morons, seriously, I have had many cats, and they never meow at me when they are dying! They go somewhere quiet to die by themselves.

Cats are always wanting attention, and you can't always give it to them! Clearly half you idiots have never owned a cat, or you would KNOW THIS. It is highly unlikely that any of you would know straight away that your cat was dying or sick just if they were meowing at you, you would most likely just think they wanted food or something!

#187 - On 09/12/2009 at 11:02pm by hornetchik

(0)

Fffffffunny, my cats don't seem to be constantly harassing me for attention, and let me know when they're feeling unwell.
I have had an average of seven cats per year for the last five years, too, so don't go popping off with "well obviously blahblah" bs again. I've raised all but one of our current six cats. I am very well aware of my animals, in other words.

#189 - On 09/12/2009 at 11:06pm by DameGreyWulf

(0)

LOL
Actually dogs require more attention since most of them need training, and can't feed themselves... whereas a cat you can basically set loose and let it take care of itself.

But no I can't entertain them all at once... One day, when I graft many arms to myself--!

#216 - On 09/13/2009 at 12:26am by DameGreyWulf

You're not supposed to bathe cats.
I must have lucked out with my cats, they don't throw up, they hardly use the litter box (because they go outside), and the one must think he's a dog because he follows me everywhere and always makes sure he's within like 5 feet of me.
The only bad thing is that he figured out that screens are no match for him. But dogs destroy screen doors as well.
Also, if you get them fixed, it's rare that they go into heat. Or you could just get a neutered male cat who will remain perpetually in kitten-hood and be the sweetest, most cuddly pet you've ever had.
Plus, (most) kittehs are free!

#251 - On 09/13/2009 at 2:12am by gonzolove

(0)

Excuse me? Dogs are far more high maintence than cats! And while cats are very independent animals, they are also love attention (usually) and will often meow at you if they are hungry, or bored, or just want a pat.

Let me get this straight, unless your cat is having a heart attack or something of the like, which makes it unable to move somewhere, if your cat is sick, it will generally go off somewhere quiet to die by itself!
YOU should know this if your such a big cat lover!

And to the people who say we sound like animal haters or whatever, I actually love animals and cats very much! But it is IMPOSSIBLE to give your cats ALL of your attention ALL of the time.

I am completely against animal cruelty and neglecting, but I don't think this owner should 'go kill themselves' over this, like some of you do. If you were in this situation, and you DID pat the cat or whatever, would you really know it was dying? Unless it was making some strange noise, which the OP hasn't specified it was, I don't think a lot of you would!

If I took my cat to the vet every time he howled, I would never be able to LEAVE.
My cat howls CONSTANTLY. Doesn't matter what time of day it is, doesn't matter if he's been fed or has attention, he howls. If he's awake, he's howling. A lot of cats do this. That doesn't mean they're trying to say goodbye, it doesn't mean there's something wrong with them. Anyone who says otherwise has never actually owned a vocal cat. Yes, sometimes I worry that my cat howls because something is wrong with him.. but when he's sick (he's had to go to the vet once or twice) he doesn't howl. He hides. He acts completely different.
Some cats don't give warnings though. My brothers cat acted completely normal until about 10 seconds before he died, when he stopped his normal wandering, let out an odd meow, and then fell over dead.
The OP did not do anything to deserve this. Noisy cats are noisy, that does NOT mean something is wrong. I wish people on here would grow up and learn to use their brains before posting, or at least do some freaking research.

I can't believe the people who are saying the OP deserved this. Losing a pet is incredibly painful, and she's probably already feeling very guilty about it. The truth is that sometimes you are too busy to give your pet attention every second of the day. My cat is very social, and always asking for attention. Sometimes you need some alone time. Cats can take care of themselves.

And anyway, even if you could argue that it was completely unfair or unjustified to push the cat away, that doesn't mean that it's deserved for the cat to die. That's like saying "Oh, you were unfair to your child? I hope it dies! You deserve it!"

I am sorry about your cat. I'm sure you feel bad about ignoring him but even if you loved on him there's no guarantee that he would have not died. I worked at a vet and one of the vets had her cats die in its sleep one day after she got home from work. He was 2 years old and was healthy. It just happens sometimes and all the love and attention in the world cannot help.

You totally do NOT deserve it, thats horrible. Cats can be really annoying and seek attention all the time, it's normal to get fed up with them.

On the bright side you can get a new kitten!

#283 - On 09/13/2009 at 9:23am by chronicwanker

Cats and dogs both rule - AND cats are more independant and cost less, and in case of some diaster (fire, earthquake etc) you're MUCH more likely to find your cat toddling round than your dog

No, cats actually cost less because they're more independent and less high-maintenance. I would say more, but you're probably a troll and enjoying this so...

I feel bad for you for losing your kitty, but it does happen. I can normally tell the type of cries my cat Momo will make. Sometimes though he will howl like he's in pain or caught an animal and he's just walking around the house just fine. Sometimes cats know how to get our attention when we respond to certain cries. If your cat had enough food/water and attention, I don't see how you are a monster for ignoring your cat to get some work done. I've done it myself with Momo and my other two cats.
I just want to say, all the people who are ripping this poor person, may karma come back to you.

Before commenting here, please make sure your statement has fact in it. Even though I'm a cat owner, I don't try and pretend I know everything about cats so I look online before posting. Cats are just as capable of dying suddenly as humans are, although with different causes.

#309 - On 09/13/2009 at 4:22pm by GnarGnar420

(0)

OK. First off: Cats cannot have heart attacks (not in the sense that people do).
Secondly, depending on the age of the cat, I could give you (w/ 95% accuracy) the cause of death here. In older cats, a very common cause of sudden death is a blood clot, called a saddle-thrombus. It can be very painful, but the cat often seems to lose control of it's rear legs, so the OP probably would have noticed that at least. However, for neutered male cats of all ages (and the OP did refer to the cat as 'him') a very common cause of sudden death is urinary blockage. This is extremely painful (imagine not being able to pee). The OP should have noticed the cat struggling to pass urine, crying out when he urinated, etc. If the cat did not use a litterbox and urinated outside, it may have been impossible for the OP to notice any problems.
Sorry for the loss of your kitty. Ignore the ignorant people.

#315 - On 09/13/2009 at 5:11pm by blueavenger

(0)

Why does this have so many YDI's? If you've ever owned a cat you'll understand that you can't always let your cat get what it wants. Most cats are very demanding, sometimes even annoying, and sometimes you have to push them away. It's very obvious that the OP loved her cat, and that it hurt her a lot to push away the cat when it was meowing. SHE. DIDN'T. DESERVE. IT.

#315, don't be such a no-life hater.

#316 - On 09/13/2009 at 6:04pm by Garanaw

(0)

"Most cats are very demanding" = Lie. Cats are low maintenance pets compared to most animals around their size.

The cat was probably meowing and coming towards the owner for food, maybe? Water? This woman deserves it, plain and simple. Hopefully next time she wants a pet - she won't get one.

i'm sorry OP.
i came home one day and my cat was just lying on the floor and she never did that. i tried to pick her up and she was just so out of it. we took her to the vet, and they had to put her down. whether you gave your cat attention or didn't, she probably still would've passed. Just remember all the great times you had with your cat.

wow, i dont get the massive amounts of YDI, I mean sure everyone does this every so often if they are busy and just dont want to pet the cat today, and im sure you don't think they will be dead the next time you see them, you guys are seriously fucked for saying YDI. Are you really thinking "next time I see you, you might be dead on the floor" every single time you are petting or giving attention to your pets? It's just not something that is always on your mind. FYL for sure!

#327 - On 09/13/2009 at 10:49pm by primogen18

(0)

Ugh, people are so stupid, but why would I go to an internet message board to find intelligence anyway?

Nothing in this post indicates to me that the OP was an animal abuser or horrible person! Sometimes our loved ones can be annoying and we push them away for a bit. It doesn't mean we don't love them, just that we need a little space. Perhaps it was a very vocal cat who never stopped meowing, and the OP didn't realize that this one time, something was wrong. Ignoring a pet for a little while isn't cruel or a crime. Sometimes they need their space and ignore us, too.

I'm so sorry about your loss.

#328 - On 09/13/2009 at 10:54pm by FurryPurryKee

(0)

This isnt really that hard to comprehend. People arent getting mad at the fact that he pushed his cat away and then it died. Everyone pushes there pet away sometimes.
People are probably just upset because a good 99 percent of the time, when cats die, you can tell they are sick first. Their hair falls out, their nose is bloody and rubbed raw, they have a huge gash, or you just dont feed them enough and all of their bones show. And A good 100 percent of the time, if your cat looks sick, you dont push it away repeatedly. You look a little closer and idk, maybe even take it to the vet?

To those who say that OP is a 'fucking cat killer' etc, well, f you
we have 3 kittens at home (well, they're almost fully grown, but meh.) and theyr'e not the most cuddly cats you could meet, but one of them, autumn, is NOT cuddly AT ALL but while I was busy, she started purring by me like that and I gave her a kiss before she started walking over my books and I pushed her off the bed about 3 times before she left me alon (even though I felt really bad).
BUT sometimes I pick the cats up and put them on my bed while I wanna sleep and they wander round my head purring happily, with me getting up and patting and kissing them (instead of sleeping when I has to get up at 6 the next day)
so, can y'all get it in your thick skulls that JUST BECAUSE the op was busy ONCE and pushed the cat away ONCE then it died, doesn't mean she's a cat killer!
theres probably a bunch of diseases it could have had that aren't very noticable, or theres also things that cause sudden death eg heart attacks
so, I say a big, FUCK YOU to all that say the op is a fucking cat killer, UNTIL you KNOW for SURE that she abuses/kills the cats.... and she doesn't sound like the sorta person to do that!

Ok... Being a long time owner of cats:

Everyone who is saying shit like the cat was trying to say goodbye need to rethink what they are saying.
Or ppl who think the OP is a cat killer need to shut up. If you've never owned a cat.. Then don't put forth your opinion. Because it doesn't matter if you have never had a cat.
First, Cats don't "say goodbye" they just don't. When cats are sick they hide or leave. They go away to die. When a cat wants attention.. they are normally fine. They just want attention and love. Cats are very independant most of the time.
Second, Cats don't always look sick. Sometimes they look fine. Sometimes they purr even if they are bleeding to death. So, half the time, it's impossible to know if a cat is sick or not.
Finally, How can everyone be so judgemental on the OP if they don't know the whole story. Maybe the cat was really old. You can't stop death. It happens.. So ppl need to stop being mad at the OP. Things like this can't always be prevented.

OP:
I know how you feel. I had this cat once. She was the greatest cat ever. Her name was Salem. I saved her from a family who wasn't taking very good care of her. She was full grown when I got her and she lived 5 years after that. When I moved she stopped coming up to me.. she would hide from me. I had to make her eat and drink. She lost a lot of weight and could bearly walk on her own. She was so close to death. It killed me. I hated seeing her like that. I couldn't let her live her life like that.. When I got the money I took her to the vet to have her put to sleep. When they finally got to us.. the vet looked at me and said, "It's alright if you want to leave. We'll take care of her." I started to cry. I told the her that I couldn't do that to her and that I had to be there. I watched her while they did it. The whole time whispering in her ear, "I love you baby kitty. It will be ok. I'll always love you. I'll never forget you, I promise." I cried non-stop for a week after. I still cry when I think or talk about her. When I buried her.. I put her favorite toy and a picture of me in the coffen.

That happened this year.. I still think about her. I haven't had another cat since then.. I just can't replace her. I'm 19 years old. I'm an animal lover. And I always will be.....
