Today, my parents grounded me for being "addicted" to drugs because I've been taking pain meds every four hours. I had my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday, and my face is badly swollen. FML

This is the OP here, my parents are incredibly worried about me taking the medicine because two of my three brothers are recovering drug addicts. I was visiting a friend who called my brother to come pick me up because I kept falling asleep mid-conversation as a side-effect to the medication. My parents assumed I was abusing them because of their past experiences with my brothers. They're incredibly understanding about the pain, but they're just scared.

What's with FMLs with such stupid ass parents lately? On a side note, your parents are assholes, OP. They should know your condition. You're obviously taking them for a good purpose in a non-addictive way.

just because your brother's are recovering drug addicts doesn't mean you will be. I understand and acknowledge that in some cases substance abuse can run in families but it's just not always the case. there are drug addicts in my family but I'm only taking my medication prescribed for my chronic iillnesses so I do know what I am talking about good luck OP and I hope your pain eases soon!

I'm starting to feel there are some stupid ass parents out there. With all these fmls about parents taking away pain meds or staging interventions or what not cause their kid had surgery or broke something. I have 3 kids and there is no way in hell I would take away something that will help them feel better!!! That just pisses me off really

I'm sorry you are in so much pain having wisdom teeth pulled sucks, I had five pulled at the same time because I grew an extra one and my mom did the same thing to me because she expected me to handle it without pain medicine like she did so she thinks everyone should be able to do that, just keep taking them if it helps.

When I got mine out I couldn't stop crying I was in so much pain. Not to mention I bled non-stop for 2 days. Every time I fell asleep I would wake up to a blood drenched pillow. No solid foods for two weeks either. So much ice cream and pudding.... And that was WITH painkillers. I don't want to know what it is like without. Though I got all four of mine out at the same time and they were impacted. Hope you get better soon OP!

That sounds horrible! It didn't take me that long to recover from having all four wisdom teeth removed and I didn't have any unusual problems. And since it was only a week before Christmas when I had to get them removed that was a really good thing!

Sucks that you have such alarmist helicopter parents. When I was on Percoset for my wisdom teeth, my parents pretty much laughed at how spacey the pills made me act. I know if I ever showed signs of an actual drug addiction, it would be different, but they were very amused. Your parents need to loosen the hell up, OP, or they'll be accompanying you to college classes and job interviews someday. Cut the apron strings!

your parents are idiots. fyl for having idiots raise you. try asking them to call the doctor's office about the pain meds. perhaps hearing a doctor call them on their stupidity will help

Did they not take you to the surgery??? How do they not know???

Be careful though. That shit really is addictive, like insanely addictive.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was only 13. The strongest stuff I was allowed to take at that age was prescription-strength Tylonel.
