Today, my boyfriend told me he couldn't spend the day with me as he had his grandmother's funeral. Lonely, I went shopping and I bumped into his mum having lunch with his 'dead' grandma. FML

Today, I took my girlfriend out for a romantic dinner, since we can't see each other this Valentine's Day. Halfway through, my aunt called, telling me my grandma had died. I had to leave because I was crying so much, leaving my girlfriend with a very pricey bill. FML

Today, I was watching a movie alone, after receiving a text from my boyfriend saying that his grandma was at the hospital, so he couldn't go with me. I caught him on a date with another girl, at the same movie screening that I went to. FML

Today, I called my boyfriend to have a shoulder to cry on because my grandpa died. As soon as I told him, he started crying and telling me how much he missed his grandmother, who died six years ago. I spent the majority of the phone call listening to him wail. FML

That's pretty damn low to use a relative's death like that as an excuse just to not have to be with you for a day. And was he foolish enough to think you'd never find out later? I'm not a complete fan of "dump him" but I don't really like your boyfriend OP

Either he really doesn't like the OP, telling her a lie that will be so easily disproved, or maybe he was doing something for her, like buying her a gift. Or going for a job interview & he didn't want to tell her till after. There are so many possibilities, some innocent & some not-so-innocent. Confrontation is needed if he doesn't explain. It still could be true; maybe it's a step grandmother the boyfriend's mum hated, or a biological grandma if he's adopted. Ask, don't assume.
