Today, I asked my boss for a few days off next week, because my grandmother passed away yesterday and I'll need to travel to attend the funeral. His response: "She's dead, you're not. You want time off, then quit." FML

Today, I called off work saying my Great Grandmother died. A co-worker texted me later asking where and when the funeral was. I made up a lie and said some random funeral home and date. My co-workers sent flowers to the funeral home for condolences. The flowers were returned. FML

Today, I ran into my boss when I was at the beach. He told me he was sorry for my loss. I asked him, "What loss?" Then I remembered I’d lied about taking time off under the pretense of bereavement of my grandmother passing away. FML

Today, at work, I served a customer who looked so much like my grandma that I thought it actually was her. Then I remembered she died 6 months ago. I had to serve customers with a smile on my face while choking back tears for the rest of the day. FML

Today, while at my aunt's funeral, my grandma who has terrible memory loss asked me whose funeral we were at. I had to explain to her that her daughter had died. FML

Today, I e-mailed the on-line instructor for my job, telling her that I had fallen behind in my work due to my grandmother's passing and the subsequent funeral arrangements, but that I would catch up this week. Her reply? "OK. Hope your grandmother gets better soon." FML

Today, on the first occasion I've seen my boss since her brief leave, I brought up how I got to hear all our customers' heartwarming plans for their moms on Mother's Day. Her mother just died. That's why she was on leave. FML

Oh for the love of..even my socially awkward ass thought of “this is my OTHER grandma” in like two seconds flat. If you couldn’t come up with that, you deserve whatever’s coming to you.

isn't it a well-known rule, "never use the dead or hospitalized relatives" lies for personal gain."... you are allowed to use distant relatives' actual death to get days off regardless of funeral attendance but never lie about this sort of thing... it's shitty.

Grandma rose from the dead!?!?! You don't need an ordinary job anymore -- you need to become the first evangelist for the Church of Grandma! Preach the teachings of Grandmaism and publicize the miracle of the resurrection of Grandma.
