Actually, as scary as it seems, girls are developing at a much, MUCH faster rate than they used to. 5 and 6 year olds are growing pubic hair and/or growing breasts. I've heard as young as a 7 year old starting her period. I'm not saying OP's kid is on this same track, but maybe she goes to school with one or several girls who are going through this? Either way, I don't believe this would be a fun thing to address in the middle of a store.

Just think, if she hangs it out to dry, a boy who is -14 years old would steal it!

She hasn't hit puberty to have anything to support! If she has a love or sexual interest this early, there is a problem! Let her be a kid a while longer!
