Today, I found out my dad bought an iPhone. I've spent the better part of the last six months teaching him how to check his email and online newspapers. FML

I think OP means it's going to take alot longer than six months to teach their dad how to use an iPhone.

I understand, OP spent 6 months teaching him to use his email and look at online newspapers (which is a pretty basic thing to do) so will now have to spend ages teaching him how to use his iPhone.

Okey six months ago my brother gave my dad a mac. I don't live at home, but my dad still called me every day asking for help with everything and when I visited them I spent hours showing him basic stuff. Today he bought an iPhone, and this is a man which has had the same basic mobile for 4 years. Hope people get the point now :P :) -OP

my 3 year old uses my iPhone. Of course it's just for YouTube and game apps that are specifically for toddlers - but still how hard can it be?

lol...when it comes to parents I have learned that technology and parents dont mix...it took my dad a year to figure out everything a delete key can do.

holy crap I have the same problem, but with my mom and it's sadder because it's not an iPhone, she doesn't know how to use a regular, SIMPLE cell phone. it's SO annoying having her ask me how to text and check her text and hang up the phone , the most simple, stupidest things... SO ANNOYING
