Today, I couldn't prove my son has had chickenpox, so his school gave us the option of getting a potentially dangerous shot he didn't need, pay for an expensive blood test to show that he previously had the virus, or sign a waiver stating I'm a religious nut refusing medical treatment. FML

76- There's nothing wrong with public schools! I've been to them all my life, and have good grades too. I hate the dirty opinion people like you, who don't know what they're talking about, have about public schools. They're freaking FINE.

They can't denie your child a education. Schools do this but since it's a law suit type thing all you have to say us " you denie my child a education then I will go file a lawsuit" and if they do denie Jim still go file one.

Deny your child an*. Who denied you yours? :/

Almost all schools are like this, it's typically decided by the state. Vaccines when starting school are something we all have to deal with. Had you taken your kid to the doctor when they had chicken pox you could have had him sign a medical exemption form, so it's your own fault. That's what we did, problem solved.

I have had a newborn in ICU with pertussis because some genius of a parent decided not to vaccinate their child.

The entire issue whether to vaccinate or not has to be a personal one. Both sides have valid points, although I'd like more honesty from everyone involved in the industry. Vaccines bypass some of your immune system and vaccines haven't been out long enough to determine how harmful or beneficial this could be. As well, most of the studies on the topic are done by pharmaceutical(sp?) companjies which should be a confloict of interest. None are run long enjough (several years) to determine the long term effects of vaccines. There's also a lot of toxic ingredients that go into vaccines one of which they claimed was safe but it was a long term goal to eliminate it from vaccines. That is thimerasol, which they said was SAFE but it was a long termk goal to eliminate it from vaccines. Vaccines have only been out for several (~5-6) decades to the public and since they were introduced, more diseases are coming about and superbugs/resistant strains of diseases are emerging. Some diseases are becoming more common as well such as autism. Not to mention, no one can agree on how effective vaccines are. Do they confer lifetime immunity like if you actually contract the disease or does it only last several years? As well, how many people get vaccinated and actually become immune? 50%? 80%? The only thing people can agree on is that it's not 100%. In addition to thimerasol, there's also other toxins in vaccines. As well, most were on a decline before the vaccines came out and the vaccine can be worse then getting the disease. On the other hand, some of the diseases they protect against can be very harmful or deadly. All I can ask for is that people make INFORMED decisions whether or not they decide to vaccinate

I had all my shots as a child as well as both my girls, now 19 & 22. We are just fine. it's a part of life. if u chose to get them fine if not fine. it's all up to that person if they want to take the risk.
