Today, I arrived at my college dorm. To help me sleep, I listened to my local radio from my phone. Little did I know, they turn off the wifi for part of the night, and hours of music were streamed onto my phone. Guess who now owes the phone company all my money. FML

I would really like to know which college this is at.

Why would they turn on wifi during the night? What do they have to gain or potentially lose from this? Fyl.

You can manually turn the data off. My data almost ran out and that's what I did

What's the point of having a data plan then?

Unless it was some kind of maintenance issue, what dorm shuts off their wifi?

As much as this sucks, YDI for not putting it on your phone to only allow Wi-Fi. It isn't hard to do and would save you from future issues like this.

And people wonder why I keep renewing my contract. I get grandfathered into my unlimited data plan lol

Your phone doesn't have a built in radio? So sad...

Keep the phone on for the alarm and to receive emergency calls, but use a radio or some recorded music when you plan to SLEEP through it. Why use the phone at all while you sleep?

It is pretty easy to put a usage limit on your phone. I can't understand why you wouldn't use a normal radio anyway, you can plug headphones in if you are worried about the noise. You can even get little personal radios that you can carry around with you for a few quid. Despite this being your fault, if you speak to the phone company they will often waiver some of the bill as a courtesy to keep your custom.

You stuffed up!! your supposed to switch off your mobile data when you use wifi. Some phone companies will still charge you while on wifi if your mobile data is still switched on because their counter keeps going.
