Small talk is hell

Today, I was struggling through small-talk at a party where I knew nobody. Tattoos came up and I started talking about trendy, girly tattoos like feathers, anchors and infinity signs with stupid words in them. Turns out the girl I was talking to had all three. FML

Tattoos is one subject I don't insult, because people have them for personal reasons I know nothing about.

If she likes them, cool. But she can't get mad if people make fun of her for following the pack. My favorite is "refuse to sink" with an anchor. ANCHORS SINK PEOPLE.

Just a general rule for parties. When talking to someone you don't know, avoid passing strong judgments on minor things that lots of people have. Otherwise you'll probably offend someone you don't want to offend over something you don't care that much about. It's one thing to say "I hate animal and child abusers," no one will disagree, and if they do no one wants anything to do with them. Saying "People who get these tattoos are stupid," just makes you seem like a bitch to the person with the tattoos and most of their friends. Not a great introduction, so save it until you know them better.

Hahah I hate unoriginality. My most recent tattoo says "know hope". It's a bit more original than birds flying out of a feather, or an infinity sign with the word "love" incorporated into it.

HAH! classic.....playin it reeaaall smooth. nice job....and how did the chick feel about your charming remarks of her "trendy" tatts??

#96 way to cover ALL your bases with that comment! You're a giver

oh, but dont mistake my last comment...its definitely the chicks fault for choosing ink that doesnt mean a thing to her, or that she just picked off the wall, internet, or someone elses body....i think tatts dont ALWAYS have to have some deep meaning or significance to whom ever gets them..but i do however think you should ATLEAST (even if you only attempt to) make it origional or different from some random picture you may have chosen somewhere...even if only a little....well, that is, if you cant just BE origional :]

Good for you, judging people. And I'm not being sarcastic

I have a fouled anchor. But you have no clue why or how, so in general, it's a smart idea to hold of on the judgment before you know those things. So when I say, its for my dead grandfather who was a commander in the Navy, it's you who looks like an idiot.

Wouldn't change an opinion depending on who you're talking to...

I don't understand why people refuse to voice their opinions on things like tattoos.
