The wake's I've been to usually had drinking. They usually had celebrating and joyful music too, to celebrate the life of the person lost. Usually I think of funerals and memorials as the more formal non drinking affairs.

If it's an Irish Wake, it's not disrespectful. Beer, wine, and liquor are always present. It's called a celebration of life, not an alcohol problem. She probably jumped to conclusions before getting the facts. Stop being so harsh on her
