Today, I was watching a TV show about people with shopping addictions. One girl was $15,000 in debt and I thought how horrible it would be to live with that. Then I realized that I'm in medical school and currently $135,000 in debt. At least they have something to show for their debt. FML

Today, I heard on the news that the average debt one is in when they graduate college is $24,000. I've been in college for one year and my debt is already $20,000. And it turns out that my school's accreditation does not exist like I was told. $20,000 in debt and no college credits to show for it. FML

Today, I learned I have over $10,000 in debt, despite never owning a credit card. Apparently, my ex-roommate had been replying to the credit card offers I was receiving in the mail. That also explains my missing driver's license a few months back. FML

Today, I did the math: back at college in 2011, I had a $20,000+ reimbursement from my school. If I had invested even half my cash into Bitcoin then ($2.50), I would be worth over $120,000,000. Instead, I said, "Fuck that! This is stupid", and am now over $200,000 in student loan debt. FML

Today, I checked my university financial account to discover I owed them over $1000. The reason? They had apparently given me too much money when I applied for a loan and now want it back. Oh, and I spent my loan money on books and a laptop for school. FML

Today, I spent my remaining cash on a doctor's visit, only to find out that at the age of 22, I'm getting major health problems brought on by stress. I came home to relax, only to find out my roommate can't pay his rent, and needs me to cover for him so we don't get evicted. FML

"At least they have something to show for their debt"? What does that mean? In a few years you'll have a respectable career. A pile of shiny things won't help you earn money the same way a medical degree can.

lol. you'll have something to show for it in several years, when you're making a 6 figure income and the people on those reality shows are still thousands in debt.

FYL for real if you end up dropping out of med school, becoming a stripper to pay off your debts, moving on to prostitution, where you acquire syphilis and have to go to the hospital and get treated by your former classmates lol

Why does everyone on here assume doctors make tons of money? That's not entirely true, it takes AGES to work your way up the ladder to a reasonable salary. However, claiming she has something to show for it and you don't is stupid. She has a bunch of clothes, you have a prestigious degree and respectable career.

I totally understand, I am up to 115k USD now and I'm only going to be a physical anthropologist/archaeologist! But at least I'll be happy. Still, it does get me down sometimes when I realize that I could own a house by now... and that mortgages are almost never paid off.
