Today, my visiting mother-in-law announced she plans on moving to our state and living next door. When I said that's not going to happen, she chuckled and said, "It's happening, Kate." Kate is my husband's ex-girlfriend from 8 years ago. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Great news
Today, my mother-in-law announced that she's going to be moving into the apartment next to us. Oh joy. FML
Tactfully, no
Today, my mother-in-law asked if she could move in with us. FML
Today, I came home from a week-long vacation, only to find my mother-in-law didn't just dog-sit while I was gone; she moved in, along with all her possessions, and seems to think it's a permanent deal. FML
Today, I found out that my unemployed and very needy mother-in-law will be moving in with us soon. And during my conversation on the phone with her, she expects us to buy a house and my wife and I can "live with her." My wife agrees with all of this. FML
Home to roost
Today, I found out that my mother has been telling several people that my fiancé and I will be moving into her house for the foreseeable future. All because we're moving to a city close by for jobs and are still searching for housing. I found this out from several of the people she told. FML
Today, I returned home from my honeymoon and met my dad for coffee. He told me he's been seeing someone and he's so happy. It's my new mother-in-law. They moved in together during my wedding weekend. FML
Fishy
Today, I found out that my girlfriend is trying to get her ex-boyfriend to move up here. FML
Today, my mother-in-maw informed us that she sold her house and is moving in with us so we'll "take care" of her in old age. She's in perfect health. We've only been married for 4 months. My wife can't stand her for more than 2 weeks at a time, let alone living with us. FML
Escaping
Today, my mother-in-law showed up unexpectedly, made passive aggressive comments to my kids in front of me about how we need a bigger place to live, and asked questions about our income. We're actually trying to move soon, and just hadn't told them yet so they wouldn't try to follow us. FML
Today, my future mother-in-law finally admitted that I'm "not the girl for her son" and that she will do anything to break us up. FML

My mother in law did that and it resulted in her kid napping our children, not seeing our grandchildren for 5 years. We were vindicated when we finally saw my children and they saw that we weren't looking to yell at them for leaving and only celebrated the reunion. They now know their grandmother is insane and controlling.

she kidnapped your children but you couldn't see your grandchildren? could you make this clearer

What I'm getting here is that her kids grandmother, who hasn't seen them in 5 years, took them into her home to make up for lost time, and denied that she had them in her custody. I'm pretty sure that they got their kids back in a few hours or a day or two.

it sounds like she went to jail and therefore didn't see the kids for five years

This is a huge JustNoMIL red flag. You have some planning to do. Depending on how your spouse reacted if they witnessed this interaction or what they say in response to your telling them about this declaration will make your path clear. Hopefully you guys already live far away from her for a reason and your spouse will back you up in pushing this drama train off course.

I would join the "all in the family" or "dwil" group on babycenter.com community. They'll help you put up some righteous boundaries on in laws and extended family. It sounds like you have a self-serving narc or a MIL and she's bound to not respect you one ounce. You've got to stand up for your family and protect yourself, husband and especially children from those kind of people.

Now I really don't feel bad for going low/supervised contact with my mom after she said she wanted to kidnap my daughter and take her across the country. It's frightening that people actually do this.

Make sure she does not have a double of your house keys ...

My MiL (who is also a nightmare) did something similar over a year ago. She wanted my husband to help her pick out a nice retirement community next to us and help her move. He didn't, and she is still living in another state.

Keep it that way

Is there a psycho mother/MIL group we could join?
