Fancy rats are intelligent, affectionate, sentinent creatures, and come in a variety of colors. They learn to recognize their owners, will run towards you to be held and can be taught to do tricks. Wild "sewer" rats on the other hand, will eat your face.

Everybody has their own ideal pet. Some people choose a smaller animal, because where they live, dogs or cats may not be allowed.

I feel like I need to explain a lot of things to people, on the basis of a lot of these comments. 1. Rats make great pets. Their temperament is a lot like a dog's, except that they're actually intelligent and clean. 2. Rats aren't carriers of rabies. 3. Rats were never carriers of the bubonic plague. That was a misunderstanding. The plague was actually carried by flees. Summary: Having a rat is a brilliant choice. Having a pregnant rat is a regrettable side effect of either not being carefuly enough about where you get your rat from, or of having a bunch of them running wild in your house.

Unfortunately most people too ignorant to know that rats aren't filthy horrible animals probably aren't the types to read any comment longer than a phrase.
