Today, my mother went shopping. She bought three boxes of Popsicles and a giant stuffed dog. She did not buy dinner or toilet paper. I've eaten nothing but cereal and popcorn for three days now. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Parenting gone feral
Today, as I searched for food to take to work for lunch, I noticed that the only recent addition to our fridge is chocolate milk and popsicles. My mom went grocery shopping yesterday. FML
Today, my grocery shopping consisted of Poptarts, SpaghettiOs, Lucky Charms, Popsicles, Easy Mac, and Twinkies. I'm a 25-year-old woman with no kids. FML
The long con
Today, I had expired soda and stale chips for my dinner. Why? Because my mother spent all our grocery money on organic food for her chihuahua. FML
Today, my mom went to the store. She said she was feeling generous, and had gotten everyone a little treat. My brothers each got candy and a movie. I got acne medication. FML
I like what I like
Today, I caught my mom eating cat biscuits. We don't have a cat. FML
Today, I had to spend all of my money on textbooks even though my refrigerator is empty. Starving and frustrated, I called home to ask for money for groceries. My mom told me I could afford to skip a few meals. FML
Today, to keep me from "getting fatter", my roommate raided the kitchen. She ate everything from cookies and ice cream to deli meat. The only thing left in the house are vegetables. FML
All in the Family
Today, my mother brought home dinner for four people. I was not one of those people. The dog, however, was. FML
Off script
Today, my fiancee asked me to text her a grocery list. I asked for meat, fruit, vegetables, you know, the staples. She came back with tons of sugar cereal, pop tarts, cookie dough, and other unhealthy crap. We have no other food, our monthly budget is gone, and junk food gives me horrible stomach cramps. FML
Uncomfortable
Today, while many women have a wardrobe full of nothing-to-wear, my mom has a fridge full of nothing-to-eat and a living room full of nowhere-to-sit. FML

a lot of you aren't thinking, the op might not be old enough to get a job and make his own money, so therefore it might not be his fault and there's nothing he can do about it

What if OP has no money, and their mom won't give them any?
jayslilsoulja 3
Hahah you could even walk for god's sake!
jayslilsoulja 3
well she obviously does because she bought 3 boxes of Popsicles and a stuffed dog. OP could even go return the stuffed dog for money
jayslilsoulja 3
she could even resort to borrowing money from a friend or taking it out of her moms wallet when she isn't looking if things get too bad!

Stealing is obviously the answer. I can tell you are a very mature 13 y/o. /sarcasm

109- it may be stealing, but in a sense if op is taking money which his mother should be providing op with the necessities to survive with, it's not that big a deal. with that being said, op if worse comes to worse, go to your neighbor and tell them you love your mom but are worried about her and her capability to be a caregiver. that can go two ways, neighbor offers to help you an mom, or neighbor calls CPS and the cops remove you from your home to a foster care center and mom is sent to jail for neglect...

OP's mom is the one who bought the popsicles and stuffed dog, not OP. OP's mom sounds like someone who doesn't care about their kid, and therefore wouldn't think to buy proper food for them, or give them money if they needed it. For all we know, OP's mom might keep her money in her bedroom and/or with her at all times, and lock her door at night, or there's some other situation which would make it either very difficult or impossible for OP to take money from their mom or buy their own food in any way at all.

@86. Yes, you are definitely 13 and lack common sense. Do you think everyone lives in YOUR circumstances? You need to ride your tricycle further around your neighborhood kiddo; observe with your eyes before blabbering with your mouth.

@142. Dear God, another ignoramus heard from. It IS stealing, you may "feel" compelled to do it, but the consequences out-weigh the risk. Go the CPS route. It makes zero sense for BOTH mother and child to be arrested or detained. Just do the right thing dammit.

I totally agree with 159..86 has money to go do their own grocery shopping which is very odd for a 13 year old have. Most 13 year olds don't have any money, and if they do it's only a few dollars from an allowance. Clearly the OPs mother isn't giving this person any type of money because the first thing they would buy is food. I'm willing to bet that 86 gets money for this from their parents to help them learn responsibility or something along those lines. When I was a kid my parents gave me a certain amount of money and told me to buy groceries for a week, and any money I had left over I could keep. If I needed any of their food I could have it but I would fail the test and that was it.

162- so what would be the punishment for taking a few bucks from mom? grounded? oh no I took $5 to buy a ******* sandwich and my mom is sending me to Alcatraz. chances are mom won't even know. now making it a habit is not to be condoned, but If op is starving? ffs it's not that big a deal. ignoramus? appreciate the usage.
jayslilsoulja 3
159 i don't see why op is complaining when they can get up and do something about it! find 1 dollar and buy something from McDonalds or tell their mom! if it doesn't work they need food!
jayslilsoulja 3
109- the mom is to supply food in the first place so it's not stealing it's using what's supposed to be yours. anyways stealing or starving?

I'd keep my money with me at all times, too, if my lazy-ass grown son was still living at home and mooching all my fruity pebbles!

I agree with jaylilsoulj. YDI, OP. Get your own food - don't expect your mother to do everything for you. That's part of growing up.

If your mother is stable and balanced then she needs to eat something nutritious too. If she is eating out (and hence doesn't need to keep food in the house) does she know that you are relying on her to feed you? Maybe she thinks you are getting a main meal at school/work etc. Maybe she thinks you are getting money for food from elsewhere (another parent or adult if you are a kid, for example). If you can't tell your mother that you are hungry and have a sensible resolution to this then you and she both need professional help. Giving you a few dollars a day to get a good meal or buy some groceries is a start. If in fact you are an adult with a job (or potential for one) then perhaps she is hinting that you should be pulling your weight around the house a little more. In any event, talking to her would seem to be a good first move.
FarSide 23
Overboard. OP needs food and needs it now. OP's counseling can wait to some other day.
Ugi 27
I have to disagree. The OP is not starving - you can live very well on cheerios and water for a while. Stealing a few bucks for a meal makes a difference today but the same issue will apply tomorrow. The OP is needs to find a way to ensure that (s)he has regular balanced meals for the foreseeable future. That means fixing whatever is broken in the "system" that would normally take care of that.
