Today, my mom informed me that my entire family puts their dirty towels on the towel rack in the bathroom instead of the hamper. I've been using their dirty towels after showers for as long as I remember. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, when I visited my daughter's apartment that she moved into about 3 months ago, I found out that she buys new underwear every time she runs out instead of washing her dirty ones. Her dirty ones have their own special hamper. FML
Roomies
Today, I found out that my roommate of over 8 years assumed “the rag” I keep “above the toilet” was meant for wiping, and “the rag” on the separate towel rack was for washing your face. I have used the hand towel “above the toilet” to dry my hands after washing for a decade. FML
Today, my sister confessed that when she runs out of clean underwear, she uses mine. That wouldn't be so bad if she didn't also put it back in my dresser afterwards so I wouldn't notice. FML
Today, I was drying myself with a towel after a shower when I noticed a bad smell. After running out of toilet paper last night, one of my friends decided to use my clean towel to wipe herself instead. FML
Today, my new roommate moved in. It seems that instead of using toilet paper like a normal human being, she instead opts to use the nearest towel in reach. I found this out when I went to dry off with mine after a shower. FML
Today, I'm on a class trip to Washington DC. Last night, my roommate took a shower, and I decided that I would take one in the morning. This morning, I found out after I got out of the shower that my roommate used one towel for drying himself, and the other for a mat. He didn't hang either of them up. FML
Sharing is caring
Today, my daughter used my towel. She thought that because it was clean, it would be okay. She’s 27. FML
Get me out of this shithole
Today, I caught my mom using my toothbrush and washcloth again, despite her having both her own bathroom and supplies. I asked her to please not use mine, to which she called me an ungrateful bitch. My dad agreed. Yet they wonder why I've been desperately saving money to move out. FML
Today, I learned that my aunt, who lives with us, is using our chopsticks in her hair and putting them back in the utensil drawer without washing them. I'm the one that uses chopsticks the most. FML
Today, I found out my whole family has been mistakenly using the same toothbrush for over a month. FML

I don't follow your logic, kiddo. Doesn't everybody in your household have their own towel? Or... do you expect that everybody uses a towel only once, then places it in the hamper soaking wet, and then puts a new towel on the rack? Me, I use towels for a few days before they go in the laundry, unless they're really dirty. (It would be really expensive and take up a ton of space to have a set of towels for every day of the week.) Between uses, they sit on the rack to dry. When I was a kid, each had our own bath towel, and would do the same thing. If you leave wet towels in the hamper for a few days, they're going to get moldy and gross - that's why you let them dry out, first. You're not going to die from using the same towel as a blood relative.

Shouldn't you be clean after you shower??? Its like using a dish towel to dry your dishes after you clean them.

If you actually think this an FML you know nothing of hardship. Who freakin' cares you big baby.

oh please. this site is not about people sharing major tragedies. frankly i don't want to go on FML to read about someone having cancer, that's not funny it's just sad. This is an FML because she's been using towels after her family members for years. I suppose you enjoy using dirty towels then?

exactly, ive been doing that for a long time. its called saving valueable money. Seriously do you know how much it costs to do laundry. you gotta pay for the power to power the washer and you goptta pay to use the water that cleans it. I have to share 2 towels with my family. Why? cuz were on a major fuuucking budget and cant really afford to do 200 loads of laundry right now. My dad just retired and we are renting a house. Not mention the only thing keeping us from starving is my dads job, everyone in my family is tring to get a job to support us, not to mention my grandparents are chipping in too. and no im not trying to make this a a worse situation. i just want to get a point out on why they might be doing it and the value of a dollar. So suck it up and learn to live like a regular working class person. and no that was not an inteded sexist comment.

@Bansheethakilla I'm sorry that you're having a bit of a tight spot financially, and it's good that you're being thrifty and all that (plus the additional though on energy saving) but honestly, for hygiene's sake, everyone should have their own towels. Even though they're family, it doesn't mean you should share dead skin cells (and possibly and communicable infections) with them. Not to say they're diseased, but we all catch some from time to time, you know? and it's best to keep them contained. You wouldn't wanna pass something you have to your grandparents, would you? (or vice versa, anyway). You don't have to have like 50 towels per person. Just one or two, to last you a week each. It's more hygienic that way. They don't cost a lot, and you could always just handwash them instead of throwing them in a machine. :) cheers!

Of course we reuse towels. It is ridiculous not to.

@Banshee... that's disgusting. How do you know someone in your family doesn't have herpes? They're gonna dry their genital area with that towel everyone else uses, and everyone else can get herpes that way. Same thing with many STDs. Do you really want to catch an STD from a family member? In my experience, you can go up to a month without washing your towel, so long as you hang it somewhere dry so it doesn't start to mildew. Then each person can have their own towel, and still save money on laundry, and you're not going to catch the clap from your brother who lives a lifestyle you had no idea he lives.

@pendatic -i didn't say it'll stop it, i said CONTAIN. When you get sick, habits change to make sure you don't infect anyone else. Well for some of us, anyway. If you don't have a choice but to use the same towel, it would make it much easier for you to pass something on to others. At least if you have your own you can keep it in your room, away from contact with others. @birds -I don't know about other STDs, but herpes isn't a very good example to be used on the topic of towels. Herpes simplex is a very delicate virus and dies quickly when it's out of a host's body. The only way you could get it is you have direct contact, say you rubbed an open wound on someone's sores, or got some of their bodily fluids on your wound. Just FYI :)

@pendatic why, thank you :) well I didn't google the info, but unless everything I've studied thus far is wrong *educationfail*, I assumed myself correct. They kinda have to teach us the right stuff if they're gonna put people's lives in our hands, lol. But I only know that for sure in the case of herpes, which is why I said I wouldn't generalise about other STDs :) cheers!

what is it with people saying 'this is not an FML' about every FML??!?!

I agree. I always thought this site was supposed to be funny..? Frankly, I'd rather read about peoples 'trivial' anecdotes than some poor woman's impending divorce or battle with cancer, which apparently are the only subjects that seem to qualify as "real FMLs"... :-|

Exactly. I don't even need to comment on this FML, you summed it up perfectly. Thanks =) lol.

My mother in law does exactly that. Every towel comes after use directly into the hamper and the next day, you get yourself a new one. She's running one machine with towels every day. At my home, we do it like you said. Everybody has their towel and when you think, you should change it, you change it. Usually after a few days. And my boyfriend had to learn this system in our place, too, because I'm not gonna wash towels everyday!

Aw, man. My family does the same thing. It's so gross. However, I only have other girls in my family. So I guess it's worse if you share them with people like your father or brothers. Ewww.

precisly. the only other girl in my family, including pets, is my mom. I have to share my bathroom with two older brothers. Thank god there are two sinks. We have a lot of towels thanks to my mom's crazy love of striped towels of all different colors(thanks Target!) so yeah. We have a stack of towels and enough clothes to last us for a week and then, it's laundry weekend! This is a family of five btw. So only having like two towels to share between the whole family is a) disgusting and b) pointless. Just go to Target and develop a love of striped towels! Especially when they're on clearence! ka ching!
