Today, my girlfriend bought several bottles of Potassium Iodine pills and a gas mask, due to the radiation scare from Japan. We live in Texas. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my girlfriend offered to wash the bathroom while I was at work. I came back home to find her feeling unwell with a bad headache. She had mixed drain cleaner with bleach because she thought it would make the bathroom cleaner. Now my entire house is a mini gas chamber. FML
Today, my girlfriend and I both developed food poisoning from last night's sushi. Our apartment has one bathroom. FML
Today, my girlfriend came back from visiting her family. She'd forgotten to take her pills, and decided to "catch up" by taking almost a week's worth of birth control and prescription pills. She's fine, but I had to convince the ER staff that she's not suicidal, just stupid. FML
Today, I was driving with my boss and she held her breath as we drove past a cell tower, because she didn't want to "breathe in any radiation." I have to take orders from this moron. FML
Today, I had to drive my girlfriend to the hospital because she had a severe allergic reaction to the flowers I brought her. FML
Today, my girlfriend texted me to pick her up some medicine because she’s "all plugged up." When I arrived with laxatives, she yelled at me. She meant her sinuses. FML
Today, my girlfriend was packing for her study abroad program. Jokingly, I got her a pack of condoms. She laughed, saying "Oh yeah, I'll definitely need some of those." Later, I showed up to take her to the airport and saw her open suitcase in the kitchen, with the condoms on top. FML
Today, my dad watched the news and decided to start preparing for Hurricane Sandy by buying $300 worth of long-life and canned food. We live in Australia. FML
Today, while I was working in the drive-through at work, a lady was wearing kitchen oven-mitts and a snorkeling mask instead of gloves and a mask to pick up her prescription. FML
Today, my girlfriend is on her period. She hugged me, crying because she was going to miss me. Where was I going? To the store down the street and back. FML

Radiation from Japan going to the U.S., California in particular, is expected to be thousands of times less than daily background radiation from natural and man-made sources, such as the sun, air, soil, medical imaging, and life saving therapies. And it's rained here in Tokyo for 2 days straight now, which removes radiation from the atmosphere. AND the closest place in the continental U.S. is 5000 miles away from Japan. Even the Japanese aren't freaking out about it, but people in the states are? Wow. People these days. People are dead, literally washing in with the tide after the tsunami, and people are honestly worried about stupid shit like radiation? Yes, radiation is serious business, but people need to go to work and do something besides sit and watch T.V. all day. OP, take the gas mask and shove it up her ass, along with the potassium iodide pills, and return the whole package for a full refund. Then, donate the money to the Red Cross.

well your gf is actually right for the iodine and questionable for the gas mask the point is that as a human being I wish more people understood the gravity of the situation so they could protect themselves if you research occurrence of cancer in the us and the rest of the world since Chernobyl and the nuclear weapons testing in Nevada in the 1940's you would see that the occurrence of cancer is many times higher in all areas of the population especially children. people on here calling her stupid are unaware of the facts the radiation has hit California but it is only what had leaked out of the plants before the explosions began it will continue to rise as the jet stream brings it over let's not forget the fact that it is still spewing radiation . if I were you I would find out where your gf is getting her info and start listening to what she has been

sooo... just because an accident has happened to a nuclear powerplant in japan means it will never happen here? i wish i had money, then i would buy some KI pills, protective suits, masks, etc.. as it is, if a nuclear accident happened in my area(and there are several nuclear plants in my VA), i would be screwed. be grateful you have a smart GF who wants to be prepared.

Even if harmful radiation does get to where she lives in Texas, she can't just take the pills and sit there. That was my understanding is that you have to take the pills and gtfo of the radiation or they won't work. Also anyone that carries these pills hardly carries any, so that's why they are all sold out.
