Today, my ex, who I'm still love with, told me he's engaged. We weren't together for long because he didn't want a committed relationship. Guess it was just me. FML

Today, my ex-boyfriend announced he was engaged. We broke up last night. FML
Today, my fiancé of two years told me he was bored of me and he'd just prolonged the engagement to see if anyone more interesting would come along in the mean time. He was upset because no one did. FML
Today, I found out my ex-boyfriend is getting engaged. He broke up with me five months ago because our relationship was too serious for him. FML
Today, I found out my ex just got engaged to a girl he met 3 months ago, shortly before he ended our 5 year relationship. His reason for breaking up was that he didn't believe in marriage and couldn't be with someone who wanted to get married. Right. FML
Today, my ex told me he broke up with me because he loved me, and that he was afraid of the commitment. He's living with his new girlfriend now. FML
Today, an ex-boyfriend of mine came to the jewelry store I work at to pick out an engagement ring for his girlfriend. The same guy who just a few months earlier ended our 8-year relationship because I wanted marriage and he didn't. FML
Today, I met up with my 'on again, off again' girlfriend of 4 years that I'm still madly in love with. We've been broken up for a few months and she's been dating someone else. We talked about possibly trying things again. When I got home, I found out she's engaged. FML
Today, I found out the guy I've been dating for 5 months is engaged to his girlfriend of 3 years. I found out as we were talking, waiting for him to come outside after work. FML
Today, I found out my ex broke up with me after 3 years because he's still in love with his ex, who he hasn't spoken to in 6 years. And she dumped him for the same reason. FML
Today, my fiancée handed me her engagement ring back and told me she felt like she's pressuring me into marriage, so to make me feel better about it we’re no longer engaged. On top of this, I found out she’s started talking to her ex again. FML

Let’s be honest. In most cases when someone breaks up, it’s either “you’re not someone I feel attracted to,” or “we fight or you mistreat me.” It’s rude to say “I don’t find you attractive,” so we invent excuses and even sometimes believe them. Tough break, and I know how much it sucks, but there’s not much else to do except move on.

Yes, people toss around a lot of bullshit lines. If you're infatuated with someone, you never bring out that "I don't know what I'm looking for" crap to them. Very few people tell the truth, since you can't handle the truth.

My ex sort of did this before we broke up in the sense he would originally be all for marrying me and then towards the end if i asked about it he'd be unsure he'd want to get married/have kids at all. But then he grew a spine when he ended it and said straight out that he couldn't ever see himself marrying me. So while that was brutal it meant i was able to get over it more. But he probably could have been a bit kinder about it and also maybe not wasted my time for so long XD I'm sorry OP, sometimes people are dicks, and sometimes people find others who make them change their minds about how they feel in regard to subjects like marriage or children. Good luck finding someone who suits you :)

Oooh honey I've been there! My ex and I got togetehr when we were 17 & 18. We were togetehr for five years, and were even living together. We had talked about one day getting engaged, married, maybe even have kids.... Suddenly out of no where, he's breaking up with me because he's "too young to settle down" and "wants to be free" and he "never got to enjoy the single adult life blah blah blah." Next thing I know, he's engaged to someone else... So yeah, he did want to settle down, but obviously not with me.
