Today, I started my new job as a supervisor. I began by cleaning out my new office, including recycling large sheets of cardboard left over from the new calendars. When the 2nd shift came in, however, they got very upset and yelled at me. Apparently, I had thrown away my Muslim workers' prayer mats. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, at my new job, a coworker offered to help me mop the floors since she wasn't busy. I ended up getting written up by my boss for supposedly being too lazy and making other people finish my work. FML
Today, was the first day of my new job. My boss admitted that they hadn't cleaned the employee bathroom for over two months. My first task: clean the employee bathroom. FML
Today, I walked into my new office for the first time after receiving the promotion I've been trying for. Someone took a dump on my desk. FML
Today, my boss fired me by locking me out of my workplace after I went out to throw out the trash. FML
Today, my boss called me into her office to tell me I needed to mind my own business and not question everything my newest co-worker does. Yesterday, I stopped the new girl from giving $6,000 to the wrong person. I was fired on the spot. The new girl was promoted into my job. FML
Please love me
Today, it was my first day at my new job. Not only does everyone hate me for replacing a guy they all liked, I managed to clog the only functional toilet there. The glares and threatening head-shaking they keep doing probably means I'm screwed. FML
Today, I started my job as a high school janitor. A student decided to welcome me by taking a dump in the urinal. FML
Today, I finally started my first job. I also lost it, for being too "enthusiastic" and making my fellow employees look lazy. FML
Exploitation
Today, my supervisor told me to stock the bedding department, so I did all the pallets set out, with an hour to spare to clean up, only for my supervisor to bring out three more once she saw I was done. FML
Job satisfaction
Today, I started my new job as a janitor at a store. The first thing that happened when I came in was another employee telling me that there was vomit in the restroom, and that I had to clean it up. Not only did I clean up vomit, I had to clean up the poop that made the kid puke in the first place. FML

Your comment makes it sound like people should come to the job and just work and not read a book, eat, chat...etc. All these can be done during the break time which is probably when the muslim workers are performing their prayers. Nothing wrong with that.

wow that really sucks but it was an honest mistake imo. How would you have known? Good luck and look at it as an opportunity to make a new friend! Maybe buy him some new ones as an apology and go from there?

You can't tell cardboard from a mat?
Tripartita 45
Yikes, that really sucks. How many mats did you throw away? Allah mats or just a few?

Haram haram

To me it seems more haram to pray on said pieces of cardboard than to throw them out.

Muslim or no, but the same as everybody else they should come to job to work and not to pray. Thats what they are paid for. Pray in your free time. Adjust hours if that is important.

devout Muslims pray 5 times a day and at very specific times, which include during the work day. Obviously it's not a problem with the employers if the man says his daily prayers/recitals

There are businesses- including hospitals- that exercise their "religious rights" through being discriminatory and refusing to serve people, including in situations that can and have cost the person their life. So, if some asshole is allowed to exercise "religious freedom" by letting a person die because they think anyone who doesn't live like they do is less human, then people of religions that requires prayer throughout the day should damn well be allowed to pray at those times of day.

It's against the law to refuse medical care to ANYONE. Please learn your rights and the laws of the subject before spouting INCREDIBLY ignorant bullshit.

Praying does not belong in a work environment, period. We are secular in the west.

Hmm…first of all, I can't see a location on the FML, so it's hard to be sure this happened in the west. Second, not all countries in the west are secular. Third, if the employee is praying during break time, how can that possibly affect anyone else?

Could even be in the UK. I believe religious people have special rights in the workplace. Granted, I've never heard of Muslim workers getting time off to pray. But, I do know of several Christian's who don't work on the Sabbath in jobs that would usually require them to work it. So that doesn't mean it's not the case for Muslim prayer.
Mynxie 26
Oh they do and they are still on the clock. They are getting paid while they are praying. They do not clock out before pray. Which is abusing the system and most do that in the West.

I see no issue with them not clocking out to pray. I've watched a muslim prayer before, it doesn't take that long.

Why not? Except for misunderstandings like this, what difference does it make? Forcing people not to practice their religion (if it doesn't hurt anyone) is just as bad as forcing people to practice a religion when they don't want to.

Cardboard sheets used as prayer mats? :/
