Today, my father contacted me for the first time in years to ask about my upcoming wedding, and possibly walking me down the aisle. He claimed the only reason he left was because he thought I'd be gay. I am. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
News to me
Today, my dad told me he liked men. While he was making a drunken speech. At my wedding. FML
Get a load of this guy
Today my dad asked if he could walk me down the aisle at my wedding. I was just too speechless to respond. He asked me on my doorstep, at 2 a.m., which was also our first ever meeting since he abandoned my mom when she was 5 months pregnant with me, and just disappeared for 28 years. FML
Nice to know
Today, my father got married. He left me a voicemail to tell me all about it. FML
Today, my dad, who lives hours away, called and told me he was getting married. Today. As in this evening. Guess I'm not invited. FML
Today, I came out to my parents. They nodded empathetically throughout my entire speech and told me repeatedly that it was okay. As I smiled and stood up, my dad asked, "But you're still going to marry a guy, right?" FML
Dad jokes, part #23556
Today, I finally let my parents meet a boyfriend of mine for the first time ever. My dad mentioned how he was happy to finally meet him, because for the past 4 years he'd thought I was gay. FML
Today, I asked my dad if he'd like to see the photos of my wedding, which he didn't bother to come to. Reply: "What the fuck, are you gay or something? Keep that homo stuff to yourself." My wife started laughing so hard she was crying. FML
Today, I heard my boyfriend talking with my father in the backyard. I thought he was asking for my hand in marriage. He was actually telling him about his plans to break up with me. FML
Today, I found my dad drunk, sitting on the bathroom floor crying. When I asked him why, he said, "My son is gay." I'm his only child, and I'm a girl. FML
Bad thought
Today, I found out that my parents have thought I'm lesbian for at least a year. I now understand why my dad has been trying to get me to "hang out" with his co-worker's daughter. FML

What an asshole. Someone like that doesn't deserve to walk you down the aisle. I hope you have a beautiful wedding with people who really care about you

Don't give him the time of day by letting him walk you down the isle when he deliberately chose to stay out of your life. Good luck with the wedding and congrats!

Don't let him walk you down the isle. He isn't worthy of being called your father at all if he left "because he thought you might be gay".

Seems like you didn't lose much once that prick left. I hope your wedding is everything you wish it to be!

What a poor excuse of a man. Congrats on the wedding, OP.

I am in Tennessee as well, I have seen quite a bit of that towards some of the people we are friends with. It's the bible belt hun, it's bound to happen unfortunately. Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials though :)

Sorry hun! I feel you. I have back ups for my own absent father in case he doesn't show up for my wedding in the near future. My brother made the comment of why wouldn't I expect him to be there. Well, he wasn't present for hospital trips, high school graduation, Basic Training graduation, or even College graduation, why the **** would I expect him for my wedding? If I didn't come from a traditional southern family, I wouldn't give him the option at all, my mom was aghast that I wasn't planning a father/daughter dance... Hang in there, you're not alone for dead beat dad's OP! If you even want to have anyone give you away, and you're own southern family doesn't object, ask a male relative (I was thinking my cousin or my step father) or even your mom! Don't let his awful nature bring you and your wife down! Congratulations and eternal love to you both! :)

So don't? She obviously didn't think you needed to be there, and you should be true to your feelings

I can relate my dad is out of my life for being human scum as well; you're a better person for it. Congratulations on the wedding and I wish they two of you health and happiness.
