Today, it snowed in South Carolina for the first time in 10 years. It snowed eight whole inches! I was so excited, I yelled for my kids and ran outside to build a snowman. I ran out to the steps and slipped on ice. I woke up in the hospital with a bad concussion. The snow had all melted. FML

Today, I went snowboarding for the first time. I was so scared that I passed out. I was only on the kiddie hill. FML
Today, it was snowing. I slipped on the ice and fell in the middle of the road, dislocating my left shoulder and knee. As I was screaming in pain and trying to stand up, two boys on the pavement threw snowballs at me while everyone in the cars just drove around me. FML
Today, the first snow of the season fell. My husband celebrated by pelting me with snowballs, while I was on the toilet. FML
Today, as I left my house, the front door slammed shut behind me, causing an entire roof-length of snow to slide over the edge and land directly on my head. FML
Today, I walked in the snow and saw some kid slip. I laughed and felt good about myself. Then I fell. FML
Today, I jumped into a pile of snow which had built up against a wall. Turns out it wasn't snow but a pile of cement covered by an inch of snow. I now have a 3 inch cut along my leg and a sprained wrist from falling. FML
Today, I woke up to a quite frigid room, which wasn't out of the ordinary since my building's heat is broken. But I realized that the extra cold I was feeling was due to the snow piled up on my bed. It had snowed 20 inches last night. My mom had apparently opened my window. FML
Today, I got snowed in. At work. FML
Today, I was making a snowman with my little cousin. I was collecting snow just outside the house, when out of nowhere a snowball struck me in the back of the head and caused me to headbutt the wall. I woke up a short while later to a medic telling me I had a nasty concussion. Thanks, cousin. FML
Today, it snowed a lot and my friends and I went outside for a walk. Someone drove by and threw a snowball at me, hitting me square in the face. Surprised, I side-stepped only to end up losing balance and roll down a hill into a ditch full of prickly bushes. FML

8 inches? That's NOTHING compared to what we got! I don't blame the OP for slipping though-- down south ya rarely get much snow at all (I grew up in the south, so I was shell shocked by the amount we have in PA) and it's easy to get carried away. That, and when you're used to snow, you learn to be more careful.

We got 12.5 inches of snow here in the south. And we only cancel school if it gets to about 4 inches.

It's still amusing to anyone who grew up in a snowy area, if a school will close for something under a foot, unless there's something else going along with it. (Winds strong enough to blow a car off the road, temperatures in the negatives, and even then, its usually closed for that reason, not the snow.)

Lucky you. I went to school on the day a record was set for most snow in North Texas. The district here always bases its decision off of Dallas in the area I live in, and the guys who make the decision there always wake up as early as possible to get the buses out and going. I guess it wasn't all bad, aside from almost crashing on the way to school and learning that turning the wheel in the direction of the skid is total BS.

If you read over my comment again, you might see a way to interpret it the same way AngryNinja did. Also, I didn't see the point of escalating things. An exchange of insults surely would have followed, and I thought that would be tiresome. I also kind of like AngryNinja's comments (she's very direct), so making nice was a pretty simple choice to make.

oh man. in Canada, school doesn't get cancelled because of snow very often, (the city I am from atleast)! -50 below with windchill, blizzarding, and school is still on. although we are advised to stay in.
