Today, I was fired. Why? Because I called in sick on my daughter's birthday, even though you cannot "abandon work for personal affairs". My boss's favorite employee got to skip work on his wife's birthday two weeks ago. He still works here. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Emergency
Today, I called into work because of a family emergency. My boss was understanding; my coworker? He tore me a new one because his wife wanted him to take the day off, which he didn't because it was going to be a tough day at work. He also threatened to find a way he could get me fired. FML
Today, I was fired from my job. Why? Because my boss has been dating my newly divorced mother, and he didn't want family get-togethers to be "awkward." FML
Today, it's my birthday and I had to work. My boss wished me a happy birthday, and then told me I was fired. FML
Today, my boss left early, so I decided to take an extended break and run home. I found my wife in bed with my boss. I got fired for leaving work. FML
Today, I called in sick to work for a second day. After months of my boss trying to get me sacked by spreading vicious rumors about me, taunting me into retaliating, and generally making my life a living hell, he finally got his chance. He sent me a text saying, "yeh dont bother son ure fuckin fired." FML
Today, I got a call from my employers wanting to ask why I had a no call, no show for today. My supervisor reported me for not showing up to work. It's my day off, and also my birthday. FML
Bye!
Today, I was fired from my job. The reason? My boss didn't feel comfortable paying his son's girlfriend. FML
Today, I was enjoying my first vacation day in 2 years. My boss then called me to come in, saying it was an emergency. I got to work and got fired. Yes, my boss made me come in just to fire me. FML
Today, while on vacation, I got fired for not working a shift I wasn't scheduled for. Even after texting my boss a copy of my vacation approval letter, she still fired me. FML
Happy Birthday, Sweaty
Today, I got a call from the office telling me I was fired. When I asked why, my boss explained my mother called and told him I was in a "weak mental state." She thought she was helping me get off for my birthday. Now I have no job. FML

Gotta love favoritism wherever you go. Looks like you didn't kiss enough ass, OP. Happy birthday to your daughter though! At least she has a parent willing to make sacrifices on her special day.

I think I'd rather have a parent that can keep a job ;P

yeah, getting fired proves how much she is loved? I'm sure the kid would much rather have her parent at home, instead of having food on the table

who gives a shit. you broke a rule, you'll suffer the consequences. you should stop caring about your fellow colleagues and improve your performance.

I agree, two wrongs don't make a right, and there is always favoritism, deal with it and don't always expect to get special priveleges. Besides you were probably a shitty employee if he has to enforce that rule. YDI

Couldn't agree more. Also if you are going to pull a sicky, who makes it that obvious? If you need AL and you don't think you are going to get it, don't ask. Go ill the day BEFORE the event and come back the day after. Say you had D & V and you're sorted. Particularly with all the norovirus going around.

Amen. maybe instead of "calling in sick" you could actually explain the situation. YDI

You guys are all dicks you expect him to go to work even though it's his daughters birthday he wants to be there for her the fact that he let himself get fired on occasion. Means he has the balls to raise a child
felixshen 18
We don't expect him to go to work on his daughter's birthday but he either should have been more convincing or take a personal day off.

Am I the only one who thinks that taking a day off for childs birthday completely stupid? I've had to work on MY OWN birthday let alone someone else's (which I'm sure most people do). It's one thing to spend time with your kids but it's a different ball game when you have to risk your career for a few extra hours with em. Just my .02

bookhaki ur one of those ****** ignorant assholes we don't need in this country becuz what they do is have kids that have no time with ther parents and have no boundries and end up acting like assholes and punch my sis and then I have to beat the shit out of the brother or just have kids and they grow up with out parents and end up knowing no manners

Ok. Scenario #2. Skip work and get fired. Having no money and no more job, your family lives on the streets. Sounds extreme I know, but plausable nonetheless. BTW nice run-on sentence above poster, you seem quite educated.

well you just need to be his favourite to do the same why not?

1) Were you really fired for ditching work once? I suspect you've pulled this before. 2) Why the hell didn't you just request the day off? 3) The fact that your boss' favorite employee got away with it doesn't make it right. YDI.

well ain't that some shit. burn the place down ;)

If you can get people to verify your boss' "favorite employee" getting away with that, as well as it's being the grounds for your termination... l-l-l-l-l-lawsuit time.
ImaginaryFoe 1
Lawsuit for what? OP broke a rule he was aware of and suffered the consequences. What would he sue for - the other guy to get fired too? Besides, there might have been circumstances around the other employee's absence that he is unaware of (doctor's note maybe?).
BlueBomber 0
Damn you, sir. I don't come into YOUR internets waving lawyers around. Hatehatehate legal suggestions here.

OP - Id fire you too if I was the boss. Rather than being upfront about it being your daughters birthday and requesting annual leave or asking if you could make up the time you took off work, you chose to lie and call in sick. Maybe the so called favourite employee negotiated a day off by choosing not to get paid for that day or choosing to work extended hours to make up the time and that would be why they got to have the day off. The fact that you are so focussed on them means that you probably arent concentrating on your own job as you should be. No one wants to work with a whiney bitchy person who complains about others all the time.
marvin_fml 0
Reality_bites you're absolutely right. It's not as if the daughters birthday counts as "unexpected circumstances". The OP had a whole year to tell their boss- "Hey I'd like this day off, can we arrange something?", but instead they lied about being sick and left their boss short staffed.
