Today, I went to go get a new ID because my wallet was stolen, which had my social security card in it as well. I found out that to get your ID you have to have your social security card, and to get your social security card, you need your ID. FML

Today, I was told I can't renew my Identity Card without a Social Security Card, and I can't get a replacement Social Security Card without an Identity Card. FML
Today, my wallet got stolen. I don't have a photo ID to get a temporary debit card, and since I don't have a debit card, I can't go to the DMV to get a new license. FML
Today, after 3 months of job hunting, I finally got a job. But now my birth certificate and social security card are somehow lost, and I can't start until I let them see a copy. FML
Today, I bought a replacement ID after weeks looking for my old one and not finding it. When I got home, my brother said he'd found my ID. FML
Today, my wallet got stolen. I had a bunch of cash, my SS card and my license in it. Now I have to replace everything, only to have to renew my license again when I turn 21 in June. FML
Today, I got a change of ID. My old ID had its corner cut off and was given a temporary paper ID. I went to a bar in another town to have some drinks. Turns out I couldn't because they couldn't use my old ID or my temporary one to let me drink, even though I'm 22. I've been there before and I work at my town's liquor store. FML
Today, I misplaced my wallet. Fortunately, I knew exactly where it was. Unfortunately, I had just taken out the only form of picture ID that morning. I couldn't stop the finders from laughing as they saw my fake celebrity entertainment ID while I tried to convince them it was actually my wallet. FML
Today, I went to go get my driver's license, only to be told that I need a copy of my birth certificate. In order to get the copy of my birth certificate, I need a driver's license or my passport. In order to get a passport, I need a copy of my birth certificate or a drivers license. I have none. FML
Today, I had gone to the store and bought a new wallet. 5 minutes later a security guard asks for my receipt. Turns out I had dropped my receipt. Some guy had picked it up and pretended I had stole his wallet. The guard confiscated my wallet because the guy had "his" receipt to prove it. FML
Today, I found a wallet containing an ID card. I managed to track down the owner, who now is threatening to call the police if I don't return the 400 dollars that he insists were also in it. FML

Um. For future reference, you're supposed to carry a COPY of your SSN with you, not the original. The original needs to be in safe keeping.

um no, you're actually not supposed to "carry around" ANY document with your social security number on it. the only time you would ever need the card itself is if you lose your other forms of identification and you'd only need the number if you're applying for credit or a job or something - in which case you'd know in advance and could grab it beforehand. having the number on you, particularly alongside all of your other forms of identification, credit cards, etc, just makes it that much easier for a thief to completely take over your identity and truly **** you over. why do you think they DON'T print it on licenses or anything? it's also why they tell you to shred, not just throw away, any papers that have your SSN on it after you're done with them

Actually they do print them on military central access cards but that's irrelevant you are right it is dumb to carry anything around with your Ssn on it, unfortunately some of us have to.

write it down on a piece of paper BACKWARDS. that way, the thief will probably get confused (If they even know what the number means) and probably just throw it away in frustration.

Dang that sucks. I'm sorry. I hope it gets worked out. I also have to agree with #7, when it gets fixed, don't keep your SS card in your wallet. Good luck with everything though!
