Today, I took a video of a fellow employee doing nothing but watching YouTube videos at work. When I showed the video to my boss, hoping he'd be reprimanded, I got fired for operating video equipment on company grounds. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, at work, I received an email telling me that viewing porn websites was prohibited and was a good enough reason to fire me. FML
Today, my boss went out for a few hours. My coworkers saw this as an opportunity to take a 2 hour lunch without getting caught. I stayed at the office to answer the phone, while streaming videos which is a big no no. My boss came back early and caught me, they're all still taking lunch. FML
Kinda harsh, don't ya think?
Today, my boss fired me for "fooling around" on my phone. I was looking for supplies for a surprise party we are throwing him for his birthday, and I didn't want to do it on my work computer because he has access to our history. Also, this happened during my lunch break. FML
Today, I watched a YouTube video at work because I was bored. I forgot I was on a conference call and my computer's desktop was shared with 15 other people. No one said anything till it ended. FML
Today, my boss yelled at me for visiting Facebook on my work computer. He says that since I can't be trusted, I'll be supervised from now on. I was uploading pictures to the company's Facebook page, which I have to do once a week as part of my job. FML
Words have meaning
Today, my boss yet again said she was "literally dying", after she watched a funny video online. Long story short, I'm now on her shitlist because I couldn't help but point out that she clearly wasn't dying, and that her ranting was distracting me from doing actual work. FML
Unionize!
Today, at work, my computer started acting up. I told my boss I could fix it, but he told me to call the IT department instead. Neither the IT technician or his supervisor could figure it out, so I showed them what was wrong and how to fix it. I was promptly fired for wasting 2 hours of company time. FML
Today, my boss told me to go outside and take part in the company's stupid Harlem Shake video. When I declined, he threatened to fire me if I didn't take part. I ended up being the guy who had to furiously pelvic thrust before the music dropped. FML
Liar liar
Today, I got reprimanded at work for calling off when I wasn’t sick. Apparently someone at the store saw me making online videos. What a great day to try starting my influencer brand. FML
Today, my boss fired me for causing a "commotion" at work while running the vacuum. FML

That's brutal. Perhaps anonymity is the way to go.

Unless there is an ACTUALLY policy, in writing, that prohibits you from using video equipment in company grounds, you need to go immediately to your Human Resources Vice President. If he/she won't take a meeting, then contact a Labor Attorney.

Recording a person without their consent is actually against US law. No attorney would touch this case.

Next time, talk to your supervisor first, get authorization in writing; THEN video the culprit(s) for evidence/proof. I truly feel bad for you, but next time think of the rules you might break just in order to catch the ones breaking the rules.

its illegal to do that.. I considered it with my manager a while back when she was blackmailing other employees.

In the US, it is illegal to record someone without their consent. They were right to fire you. You didn't just break company policy, you broke the law.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. Unless you're in a place with an expectation of privacy like a bathroom or a locker room, videotaping and photographing without consent of the subject isn't unlawful in most if not all states.
