Today, I received an early Christmas gift from my boyfriend of ten months. It was soap. In a few days he will be receiving his very expensive specialized car horn he has wanted for years, while I will be enjoying my new bar of Walmart brand soap, which has already begun to give me a rash. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend decided to gift me soap, a razor, and deodorant for my birthday. FML
Cheapskate suds
Today, it turns out the beautiful, "organic" artisanal soap my boyfriend gave me actually came from the 99 cents store. He just wrapped it in some cellophane and gave it to me. I’m currently itching to death from the godawful rash and hives it gave me. I may need to go to the ER. FML
Today, I received from my husband for Christmas the body lotion that only he uses. And nothing else. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I gave each other early Christmas gifts. I gave him a basketball signed by his favorite player, which took me forever to find. He got me diet pills. FML
Today, my boyfriend gave me a gift. A half-used bottle of body lotion that belonged to his dead wife. FML
Today, my boyfriend gave me acne cream for my birthday. FML
Pampered
Today, I went to the Walgreens by my house and bought 8 body wash soaps because my boyfriend needs that much for 3 days. I’ve done this so many times that the girls at the register know me, and my boyfriend, by name. They gave me a bunch of $5 off coupons because they felt so bad for me. FML
Today, my boyfriend decided to give me my Christmas present early because he's going to his grandparents' house for Christmas and won't see me. I was excited, until I unwrapped a sweater that I left there a month ago. FML
Today, my husband came home with a Christmas gift from a coworker. It's the same thing I got him. FML
Thanks, I guess…
Today, it's my birthday. I don't mind crappy gifts, but I have to wonder why the hell my boyfriend bought me a home enema kit. FML

Ten months and you're already buying him expensive crap?

I could see if it was one of those fancy soap/lotion etc. gift packages. I'd be more concerned that he wants a specialized car horn, that sounds pretty lame to me.

10 months is not long if you are young, if you are older then 10mths is a substantial time to date anyone. My question is this, why did he give you soap BEFORE Christmas? I think he may be hinting at something, its awkward but I think he may have handled it very nicely. Secondly, I would not be giving him an expensive gift for Christmas especially something "specialized", no matter how long you've been dating. You will both feel awkward when you give him the gift.

I'm not sure i get what you are saying. 10 months is not that long if you are young, but if you are old, 10 months is a long time? How does that make sense? I feel like when you are younger, like in high school, 10 months could be considered a long time, since not many high school relationships even last that long. it is when you are older, when you are an adult and thinking about long term relationships that 10 months is just the beginning. Still, doesn't sound like the op and her boy have a very good relationship, if they didn't communicate at all on what kind of gifts they were getting each other.

Damn, why are people so obsessed with expensive gifts?

why would they feel awkward? specialized gifts are nice...i like getting them. it makes me feel like the person actually knows and cares about me.

Let me guess. The horn plays "Dixie." You deserved it, and him. For Valentine's day you'll give him a heavy gold necklace and he'll give you a pair of panties packaged to look like a rose that he bought from the gas station on his way over. By March all you'll have to remember him by is the credit card bill.

You mean that you actually used the soap? You should have sent it back as a break-up present. Also, you haven't been together long enough to warrant buying him expensive stuff. That was rather silly of you.

Expensive gifts like that are for when you're married, not dating. And maybe he doesn't have as much money as you, and can't afford to splurge on a Christmas present for his girlfriend. My boyfriend and I have been dating 14 months. He wants an XBox for Christmas. I'm getting him a basketball. If you're young, let your parents handle the expensive gifts. If you're older, let him buy his own horn.

You're not the brightest girl aren't you? 1- shouldnt buy such an expensive gift to someone you only dated for 10 months. 2- stop using the soap if it gives you rashes, seriously..

YDI, genius. If you're so disappointed, maybe you shouldn't have spent so much. Or maybe, if you were smart, you would've just talked about what price range you guys would go for. Idiot.

I'm sure you've given him a rash that will require expensive meds and months to clear up, you disease-infested, materialistic ****. It's when you start counting up the beans that it is over. You're not going to make it to one year. Sorry.

HAHAHA. How did this one get too many negative votes? It's the funniest one on here!

Thanks, starshine. I'm happy that you enjoyed it. :)

Things have been really squirrelly lately with the comments. It almost seems like it knows which ones I like and which ones are not so good -- and it ***** up the good ones! You'll notice after hours or days they finally come right. I'm still bitter that my Dolly Parton comment was sporadically on and off when that FML was being actively discussed. I think it was #16. I don't know if you like it, but I made myself LOL with that one.
