Today, I overheard my boyfriend talking to his mom about me. It sounded like they were planning something for me, like a marriage. They were planning how to break up with me. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I heard my boyfriend talking with my father in the backyard. I thought he was asking for my hand in marriage. He was actually telling him about his plans to break up with me. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years called my house even though I was with him at the time. He needed to talk to my mom. He asked her to break up with me for him. FML
Corruption
Today, my boyfriend just told me that his mom told him to break up with me, and that she would pay him to do it. His mom is a bitch. FML
Red flag
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me. Apparently, he spoke with my mom and the fact that she wants me dead is a huge red flag. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me. Everything was going perfectly, right up until he brought me back to his house to tell his family the good news. When I excused myself to the restroom, I overheard his mom say, "I thought you were going to break up with that stupid slut?" Welcome to the family. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me that my mom paid him to date me. FML
Today, my parents met my boyfriend for the first time. They spent the entire meal trying to convince him to dump me, all while I was sitting right next to him. FML
Today, after we got home from the doctor's office, my mom checked the voicemail. Loud and clear, we both heard my boyfriend's break-up message. My parents had already forbidden me from dating. FML
Awkward small talk
Today, I went to my boyfriend's house, intending to break up with him. Instead, I was greeted by his whole family throwing me a surprise party. I had to sit and listen to his whole family talk about what a great couple we are and how we're going to last forever. FML
Technique
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me. How? He invited my mother to his house for coffee with his parents, and told her. She then had to come home and tell me I’d been dumped. FML

Boyfriend: Babe I need to talk to you about something OP: Me too! But first a magic trick! Boyfriend: Ok..? OP; Abra, Kadabra, you're single. Bitch.

It took the two of them to break up with you? Might be too late to cut those apron strings.

That totally sucks

Yes it sucks, but maybe he was just was just asking advice to his mother on how to break up with you with as little pain as possible.
kiwienne 21
Exactly! He cares enough to not send her a text or just say "we're done" and walk away. You're not always a jerk just because you want to break up with someone, OP

I'm sorry but I don't understand how this is an FML with so little detail. How long have you been dating? How old are you both? I think it is perfectly acceptable to ask your mother for advice, he probably didn't want to hurt you, therefore; making him a gentleman, not a jerk. I am not voting either way as there is not enough information but from what I do have it would be a YDI as everyone who gets broken up with deserves to have it done at least respectfully and honestly.

Exactly. I understand the character limit and why it's needed, but sometimes it leaves a lot out.

I don't know why you're getting thumbed down. That was an awesome crossover

How does planning to break up with you sound remotely like planning a wedding?

I get the feeling OP might be a little too keen on moving quickly with said relationship, and perhaps OP's boyfriend feels different?
SpamPam 18
But it's just a stupid thought
JukeboxBanshee 10
So it would seem, with her thinking marriage and him thinking the single life. I just wonder what in their conversation made OP think that they were planning a marriage.

54 - Are you attempting to say "quack?" I've seen you post this on a couple comments.

Wow, everyone is assuming the worst. What if the dude said "Mom, I need I break up with my girlfriend but want to be as kind as possible. How would you, as a woman, want to get the news?" Come on. That's a caring individual right there. Sucks that she overheard, but that alone doesn't make him an asshole.

Yes, everyone is assuming the worst but don't be a hypocrite by also making an assumption.

#96 - When I say "what if" that means it's a postulate, not an assumption.

Maybe he's talking to his mum about it because he's not man enough to do it himself..
