Today, I was driving on the freeway when I saw a car in front of me swerving across 3 lanes of traffic. Thinking he might be drunk, I dialed 911 on my phone, but I dropped it. I fished under my seat to get it, swerving, and got pulled over by highway patrol and given a field sobriety test. FML

Today, I was pulled over by a policeman. He thought I was drunk, after doing the "walk in a straight line" test and the "finger-to-nose" test. It wasn't until after I got a fine that I got it through to him that I have cerebellar ataxia, and that I wasn't drunk. FML

Today, while driving home I had to pee really bad, so I speeded up to get home quicker. I got pulled over for speeding and peed my pants. The cop, assuming I was drunk, made me take a sobriety test. I had to walk a straight line with piss all over my pants at 2:00 in the afternoon. FML

Today, while leaving our county courthouse after testifying as the arresting officer in multiple DWI cases, I hit a wrong way sign in the court’s parking lot. All the defense attorneys were outside, asking me if I was drunk. FML

I can see that happening in 2 cases. Someone with a sense of balance so poor it's practically vertigo, or someone is just fat and can't handle a shifted center of gravity. Given it's the America, I'd bet on fat.

Breathalyzers can record from 6-24 hours, so if you drank not a long while ago they know

I actually spent the night in jail for this reason. I have a genetic disorder that causes balence problems and they made me take my glasses off for the follow my finger test. i am not even 20/20 vision with my glasses. passed the breathalyzer, so then they assumed i was on pills. i now keep a statement from my neurologist and eye doctor in glove box.

the field sobriety test was made to make you fail. the only reason it exists is to give the cop probable cause to arrest you untill another cop shows up to give you a breathalyzer test.
