Today, as a support worker, I spent 45 minutes making various attempts to calm a violent autistic kid. Just as soon as I was sure the crisis was over, he beat me as hard as he could with the "Things I Can Do When I'm Mad" book I'd given him. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
How to make a sociopath
Today, I went to my job as an aide for first-grade students. I went home with a swollen face after my student punched me because I was, "making the timer go too fast" and he wanted more iPad time. FML
Difficult
Today, a patient, who is normally pretty chill, was being quite difficult for my workmates. They were whinging about him and I defended him, he's normally a sweet guy so something must be upsetting him. I went to chat with him, he punched me and called a useless a**hole. FML
No more bring your kids to work days
Today, I took my 6 year-old to work. A normally docile child, she chased me around with her toy - beating me with it while all my colleagues watched - not stopping despite me requesting her to. When she finally lost said toy, she threw a huge tantrum. Guess who's banned from my office. FML
Call CPS, quick
Today, I saw a kid throwing a tantrum in a supermarket. Thinking it was a matter of lack of discipline, I waited for the kid’s mother to come out of the bathroom to tell her how naughty her son was being. I then got to watch her beat her son to the point of unconsciousness. FML
Today, I had to pick my son up from school after he beat the crap out of another student. The words that made him go nuts were apparently, "You mad, bro?" FML
Straight to jail
Today, my child was refusing to leave the playground. I had to pry her, screaming and crying, from the monkey bars. I then realized I had been assaulting someone else's kid. FML
This boy
Today, I was babysitting a four year-old. He was mad and began hitting me. I told him to use his words not his fists when he's mad. He then began telling me how much he hated me, and that I should go die and never come back. FML
Big boomer energy
Today, my father-in law-shared his opinion that autistic kids should be beaten until they act normal. He saw fit to share this while my autistic son was having a meltdown because my father-in-law came to the house without warning, and my son violently hates visitors without prior warning. FML
Little shit
Today, I was asked to take care of my 3 year-old little brother. After 15 minutes of him screaming and me trying to keep him entertained, he started throwing his toy cars at me. He hit me in the mouth, and I started to bleed. My parents yelled at me for "not controlling him." FML
Today, a punk-looking college kid was making fun of my mentally handicapped son. Out of anger, I punched him in the face. I got handcuffed and thrown into a police car. The kid stood there laughing and pointing at me. FML

How unfortunate. That, and a tad bit ironic. Perhaps he gave the book a good use after all.

Shoulda given him the book "how to make sweet passionate love to a woman".

Oh come on, beating you with a book with that title is a LITTLE funny.

I know how you feel. I'm a percussionist in my high school's concert band, and one of our freshmen percs is a bit violently autistic. To quote him: "Tell Venna I love her or I'll break your arm!". He's definitely not stronger than me, but his constant swearing and hitting me with mallets(up until our band director suspended him for a couple days) led me to believe he definitely would've tried to do it. It just requires a lot of patience. I found that ignoring the kid makes him apologize.

I'm sorry for your pain, but that is the funniest irony I've ever heard about. It'll make a helluva story to laugh over once your bruises heal.

Don't be a douchey ass hat about it. Rule #1 You can't reason with autism. Rule #2 Offer choices and positive reinforcement. I work with class rooms with multiple children with autism. Suck it up, it isn't that hard.

No, it's "autistic kid." I'm autistic, my brother is autistic, and I have autistic friends. "Autistic kid" is perfectly acceptable.

If he gets violent then just act like his mother and punish him. It's all he needs. Act like your trying to befriend him instead of just calming him down

And you have no clue about what autism is. My son is autistic and sorry he would have tossed the book. Not at someone's head ( I hope) but out a door at least. He is getting better though. Only one or two fits at school this year and they weren't even that big.
