Sobering
Today, is my 21st birthday. My friends took me to a bar to celebrate, knowing I don't drink. I'm now in charge of driving my friends home after they've had an awesome night. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, it's my 21st birthday. All my friends showed up at my house already drunk, so I had to be the designated driver. FML
Today, it was my 21st birthday and I invited a handful of my best friends over. They all stood me up and I drank alone in my apartment. Happy birthday to me. FML
Today, I was the designated driver. It was also my birthday party. FML
Today, my parents took me to a bar to celebrate my 21st birthday. They brought my little brother, but when the bouncer wouldn't allow him in, they made me wait outside with him while they went in for drinks. FML
Today, it's my 21st birthday. My parents' gift was a case of non-alcoholic beer, to "prepare" me for when I "turn 21." My parents can't even remember how old I am. FML
Today, I was the designated driver for my friend's 21st birthday. On the way home from the bar, he threw up all the pasta and tequila he'd had onto the back seat of my car, and told me it was part of his whole party plan. FML
Today, it's my birthday and my friends and I went to our favorite pub to celebrate. As I'm a little broke at the moment, they all offered to buy me birthday drinks. Which I later learned meant that they would order them for me and bring them to the table, but put everything on my tab. FML
Today, I turned 21 and had a huge party because I could finally drink legally. Got arrested for public intoxication. FML
Today, it's my 21st birthday. The only person who drank with me was my elementary school principal, who I happened to run into at a bar where we were the only two people there. FML
Today, it was my 21st birthday. My roommate insisted her friend join us. They both got belligerently drunk while I was pretty sober. We ended the night at 12am with her friend violently sobbing at the bar over her boyfriend, while I played Subway Surfers. Yay. FML

should have left without them

I still say the term "Friends" needs to be re-defined.

what's the matter...it is your choice not to drink so I don't see why you would be upset with that

There's one simple thing people should understand : One doesn't necessarily likes alcohol. I hate the taste of alcohol, and I never drink any because of that. It ruins perfectly good beverages (like cider), or food (cooking with wine or anything), that's my opinion, such are my tastes. Just because you turn 21 doesn't mean you have to get trashed, and anyone thinking it's ok to take care of your trashed friends should think again. The problem here is obviously not the fun he had that night, but the fact he had to "do the work" once the night was over. Kinda makes you feel you got used... Anyway, FYL OP. Hope people will slow down on the booze and respect a little more people who just don't drink alcohol.

lol sucks to grow up in America! I've been drinking since I was 16. what do you guys think happens at 21 that magically makes it possible for you to drink? I'm way more mature with alcohol then any 21 year old American I know because it's been such a relax thing since I was 16.

Relevance to the FML?

First thing. Its not really a big deal if you drink once in a while. You might enjoy it. And if you really don't want to, it's your choice. But i'm guessing your friends told you they were taking you to a bar. And if that's the case. You have no right to complain if you didn't tell them you don't want to go there. So quit crying. And if they didn't tell you then your life does suck (but it seems unlikely that anyone could think taking a friend to a bar is very good surprise in itself for a birthday). But if you did know you were gonna go there "For God's Sake Take Some Responsibility For Your Own Life!!!!"

YDI, OP. I don't care if you drink or not, but the fact that you let your jerk friends walk all over you on your birthday? Speak up! If you just sat there and sulked, you have no one to blame but yourself for having a crappy time.

Tbf, 78, rbg didn't specify high blood sugar, just diabetes. You're right about the mechanics, of course. But the times my diabetic friend has gotten himself into trouble with alcohol have been due to low blood sugar, not high. He drank enough to not think straight, and when his sugar dropped and the mindfog associated with that descended, he couldn't form the logical thought to adjust his pump. He had a bad seizure and really banged himself up. I know it can be safe for diabetics to drink in moderation, and my friend was definitely not doing that. I just thought I'd mention it because I've seen denial and the no-mixers excuse cause some seriously life-threatening situations.
