Today, my girlfriend dumped me because I didn't attend her dog's funeral, and was therefore an insensitive bastard. I couldn't attend because my mum has cancer and I was driving her to a hospital appointment. FML

Today, I texted my girlfriend to tell her that we couldn't hang out because my dog died this morning and we were burying him. She replied that she wasn't going to get stood up by a stupid dog. She then broke up with me. FML
Today, my girlfriend whom I'm crazy about broke up with me out of the blue. After pleading with her unsuccessfully, I called my mom for comfort and advice. She informed me that my dog had died. FML
Today, my boyfriend dumped me. I tried to hide my sadness from my mom. She still noticed, and tried to cheer me up. She took me to a funeral. FML
Today, my girlfriend dumped me because her dog "told her to". FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because her mom said she would buy her a pug if she did. I got dumped for a dog, and an ugly one for that matter. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because I didn't call her in the last few days. I tried to explain to her that I was out at my grandfather's house in a remote place with no cell service to stand by him on his death bed. She thought I was making excuses and called me a lying bastard. FML
Today, my girlfriend slapped me and dumped me because she thought I was gay, simply because I had to miss a date because one of my guy friends was in a car accident, and I went to see him at the hospital. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because I cancelled our date tonight. I cancelled because I had a seizure and was taken to the hospital. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he couldn't spend the day with me as he had his grandmother's funeral. Lonely, I went shopping and I bumped into his mum having lunch with his 'dead' grandma. FML
Today, my girlfriend dumped me because I didn't take her pet rock seriously. FML

This is true... it may sound insensitive but your mom is still alive, albeit sick. As someone with a sick family member and as someone with beloved family pets, go to dogs funeral and have someone else drive Mom to the doctor. If your mom had just cut off her arm or some other emergency, I can understand, but cancer is not really something an ER can do anything about. Even said sick family member would likely understand, being an animal lover herself, at least in my family.

It's not enough for you to get someone to drive your mom to the hospital, it shows your mom you care about her by taking time out of your life to drive her to the hospital. If you go to a dog's funeral, then it shows the person that a dog's life is more important to you. A sick person may understand, but it shows you don't care about them anymore.

Are you saying, #103, that the OP's primary role was to drive his mum to the hospital? She could get a cab for that! I have had far more exposure to cancer in my family that I would wish on anyone and I can say with considerable certainty that having someone along to help you deal with the barrage of information that is received and required, deal with the positives and comfort you in the negatives is just as important as actually attending. It's hardly worth going if you are so much in shock from what you are being told that you can't remember a damn thing after. The dog is dead. There is nothing that can be done for it now. Being there to help your mother make the right decision on her cancer treatment could save her life, or support her in deciding whether or not to undergo devastating treatment in the hope of making a difference. If you ever have to decide whether to turn away treatment and just take as many good days as you can, I hope very much that you have someone there to support you. Imagine that you had to make the decision to die on your own while your son was off burying a dog. There is simply no contest.

I'm sure she has appointments all the time so she can't expect him to take her to every single one. he has his own life that he can't neglect by devoting all his time with her. dies she have no other family? or friends? could she not reschedule? if it were mynk9m she would be completely understanding especially since the mom wasn't dying
