Today, my dad screamed at me because I've been "spending too much money". He's been out of a job for 4 months and I've been giving him 300 dollars a month to help pay for bills... and his beer. FML
Today, my dad asked to borrow some money off me, so I said okay. Later on, he told me he'll be using it to help divorce my mom. I pretty much just helped pay for my parents' divorce. FML
Today, as he was going out, I asked my father if he stop by the store and buy some tampons for me and toilet paper for the house, because we have been out for the last 5 days. He came home with a 30-pack of beer and cigarettes instead. I just started my time of the month and we have no more money. FML
Today, my step dad stole over $400 worth of savings from me. He spent it on alcohol, fireworks, and a very large sombrero. FML
Today, my dad has been hitting the bottle, and will only respond to anything I say in a slurred rap. FML
Today, my dad answered his Skype call by insisting he wasn’t giving me any more money. Thing is, I had been about to ask for money, again. I tried to open a shop in the middle of a pandemic, and I’m 4 months late on rent and utilities. I ended the call so he wouldn’t see his grown son crying. FML
Today, I came home and was greeted by my dad telling me that he pawned my guitar for gas money. FML
Today, I met my biological father for the first time. He seemed to be slightly intoxicated from the outset, and less than half an hour later, he had tried to intimidate me into "loaning" him several hundred euros for reasons he wouldn't tell me. So long, "dad". FML
Today, my dad called for the first time in six months. He needs someone to bail him out of jail. FML
Today, I found out my dad stole money from me when he was arrested for buying Oxycodone from an undercover cop. FML

Doesn't mean everybody is like that. I've loaned money to my parents numerous times and they've always paid back, making sure to ask me how much they still owed me every few days. It's worse with my sister, but I know she's in a tight situation, so I just remind her every so often.

But what happens if your family really needs it? If you have the means to help out your family members (especially those who REALLY need it) then as long as they're not completely taking advantage of you I don't see why you wouldn't try to help them.

Well, there are plenty of medications you just don't want to know your dad is using, like suppositories for haemorrhoids. I think it's pretty normal to trust your dad, unless he has behaved in some way before that gives a reason not to

some people fail to realize that alcohol is a depressant and believe it's a stimulant, and when away from it experience depression because they believe it is a stimulant. which explains my comment of the dad being depressed because he can't buy more alcohol

While it is classified as a depressant, it doesn't necessarily follow that you become depressed from it. If you are already depressed and you drink it then yes it can lead to further depression. But it can also make happy people have a real good night! And yes... Unfortunately in almost any case it becomes a depressant in the morning
