(0)If you're going to speed, might as well keep up with the others.
(0)agreed...if you're going to speed, at least try to be the slowest one doing it...just makes you look like your car won't go that fast...
(0)Wȅ̏́̾̅̒͆̾ͬ̎̆͗ͥͭ̿̓̉͛҉̕͏̧̛̣̼̹̫̭͙͙͔ll I agree with these guys tbh.. speeding a lil slower is still speeding; it just makes you easier to catch
(+2)I agree. YDI for speeding, and YDI for thinking that you going 15 mph over as opposed to 40 over was really gonna make a difference to a cop... Especially when he can catch you.
(+1)25 over? your fault any day of the week, selfish bitch
(+2)agreed. op, you're just an idiot
(0)To be fair, if the traffic was really going 100mph, it would have been incredibly dangerous for her to go 60. Cops who pull people over when they're going the speed of traffic are clearly just trying to fill their quota.
On the other hand, I don't think I've ever been anywhere where the traffic was that fast. I suspect the OP is lying.
(+5)"A business man, late to a meeting, speeds on the freeway. He notices that the cars around him are all going at the same or a higher speed than he is, so he feels pretty safe. Nevertheless, a cop pulls him over.
After losing ten minutes of his time and being given a speeding ticket, the man is furious. He complains to the police officer. 'Officer, there were plenty of cars speeding around me. So why did I have to get the ticket?'
The police officer simply smiles at him. 'Sir, have you ever gone fishing?'
Taken aback by such a seemingly random question, he stutters out a response. 'Uhm... y-yeah, I do fish occasionally. What does that have to do with anything?'
'Ever caught all the fish?'"
YDI. Don't speed.
(0)Guy above me is great
and u should never speed a car is a weapon when u are speeding u are loading the gun
(0)LOL I've heard this one before. :D

(0)the alley's a two lane road in the middle of nowhere, people really do go that fast all the time! but not everybody of course
(0)What Saccha AND letitbe said, which is why I clicked both.
(0)try georgia. the redneck part of georgia. they drive like that here all the time. i believe the op because i constantly have to drive a little over the speed limit just to get the rednecks with their big pick up trucks to stop tail gating me. if i go the speed limit, they get all mad and reckless and try to pass my car dangerously. so yeah, because of a bunch of idiots that want to go 100 mph, i have to go at least 60 mph when the speed limit is 55.
luckily the cops here speed and popcorn all over the high way too, so w/e for me. sorry op :/ while speeding is still speeding, sometimes it's more dangerous not to speed on a road full of idiots.
(0)Cops don't have quotas
(+1)speeding is fine, just dont act like its a big deal when you get caught. YDI for being a whinging shit, i mean really, what u lose some money and get some demerit points, boo hoo.
you know if you speed you may get caught, so how you came to the conclusion that this was FML worthy i dont know. if you said you had 1 point on your license i might have sympathised a bit, but no. you just suck.
Dunno, I've definitely seen people going well over 85 on I-81.
#82 - On 10/20/2009 at 1:29am by rothenb
(0)Cops may not have actual "quotas," but if they don't write as many tickets as their fellow officers do they get stuck doing bitch work.
(0)I'm not so sure. I have family down there, and the drivers are LUNATICS. Obscene gestures are commonplace, and if you dare go the speed limit you can get nasty looks before you're cut off. Bad drivers are everywhere, but they're in another league in Florida.
(0)Come to Oregon. It's a good day if nobody is going under the speed limit.
(0)Stfu #32. Where do you drive? The McDonalds parking lot?

(0)Lemme guess, Alligator Alley, right? Been there, done that...
(+4)YDI for speeding.
The cops will always get the slowest speeder.
(0)Why is this badded? Its true. She shouldn't have been speeding and cops ARE that lazy...
(0)haha :P guess the rule dosent work in america... if you go slower then all the other cars you shouldn't get clocked.. but YDI for getting caught... the best thing is when the police are speeding as long as you dont over take them they don't do crap here :P
#7 - On 10/19/2009 at 8:01pm by lahp
(+2)That's the typical predator/prey routine.
The predator chooses the slowest and weakest of the herd. Thanks for letting us know that you are slow and weak. That might come in handy during a food shortage.
(+1)Lmao.
(+1)Thank GOD we have a plan just in case we're all turned to zombies. I KNOW WHO'S BRAINS I'M GOING FOR!
(+1)Any X-Presidents on that list? I hear one has a pickled brain. Mmmm.. pickles.
(+2)So are you insinuating that you should not have received a ticket, because everyone was doing it?
FYL because YDI.
(+1)Yeah, really. "But officer, I may be breaking the law, but everyone else is breaking it worse!"
(+1)YDI. You were speeding, by a large margin. If everyone else was going 85 and you were going 70, I'd have some sympathy. But either way, you were breaking the law. Why should it matter you were the least successful at it? YDI.
(+1)Hey, at least he didn't find the body in the trunk, right?
(0)so YDI - speed limits are there for a reason!
and of course the police will go for the slowest, is there any point in overtaking you to speed to catch the others up? (no.)
(0)Actually there have been studies that have shown that Speed Limits are apparently there for no reason, since they don't do anything to increase safety.
(+1)If you don't want to be pulled over for speeding, you could...uh...not speed. I'm told that works. ;)
(0)You still asked for it. As they say, first-come, first-served... and you definitely got served. LOL
(+1)first come doesn't seem to have any relevance though...
(0)Did you think you were safe, because you were the slowest? Get over yourself. If you don't want a ticket, don't drive 15mph over the speed limit. And if you're going to speed, do what everyone else is doing and make it challenging to be pulled over. Police are lazy just like the rest of us.
#18 - On 10/19/2009 at 8:25pm by kevind23
(+1)Like others have mentioned the OP gets no sympathy...speeding is speeding and the whole "but they were doing it worse than me!" just comes off as whiny and immature.
(+1)Yeah, everybody was doing it, but you were the one who got caught. Try telling that to the judge. Cops are so lazy. They always go after the closest offender. Since you were in the back of the pack, you were the easiest target. Unfortunately, that's the way it goes. I'm surprised at the lack of sympathy from the peanut gallery.
(+1)You're still speeding. Your argument boils down to "I was breaking the law, but I wasn't breaking the law as bad as the people around me". Seems kind of silly.
(0)Be in the middle of a pack if you're going to speed. Likely the ones ahead will be going a bit faster, the ones behind a bit slower. Either the ones in front will trip the radar and the cop will go after them or the ones behind you will be going just slow enough for the cop to catch (as you've learned).
(0)that's why you work your way into the middle of the bunch and cruise along with them. I guess you learned your lesson though if your gonna speed do it the right way :)
(0)I do 90 in a 65 so I feel, but 100 draws the line, a collision going so fast would suck
#26 - On 10/19/2009 at 8:40pm by justmyluck1212
(0)Right, because a collision at 90 mph would hurt SO MUCH LESS than one at 100 mph?
Also, why do people keep saying the OP was going 15 over the speed limit? 85 is 25 more than 60, not 15.
(0)I made a typo; not sure about the other poster.
#56 - On 10/19/2009 at 11:00pm by kevind23
(0)im sure 90 would be almost as bad :)...dummy head....

(0)i hate cops. except for the really hot ones with big boobs like on police academy and other tv shows.
(+2)Boo freaking hoo. You were speeding, you got pulled over. YDI.
(0)Is this some Florida NASCAR thing? 100MPH? They shoot you in the face for jaywalking here. Of course 'here' is a dying post-industrialized city that needs the money.. :[
Oh, you live in Detroit! Greetings from Los Angeles.

(0)In Ontario you'd get your car impounded, and (i think) a one week suspension on your license for that.
(+1)I was speeding enough to get a fine in excess of $200 in many states, and got pulled over even though other people were speeding WORSE!!!!!!!!!! BAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
(0)Everyone knows Alligator Alley is a speed trap! At least you weren't going 90 though, you could've gone to jail.
(0)FAKE. stolen from the movie This Christmas. dumbass

(0)How is this possibly not her fault? She was going 25 mph over the speed limit, she deserves whatever she gets.

(0)your so dumb can i sock u in the face?
(0)dont speed then
#46 - On 10/19/2009 at 9:58pm by kvgf1484
(0)NEVER go over the speed limit on the alley! the Miccosukee cops are REALLY hard on speeding and will get you for going 5 over!
(0)Getting pulled over on a Reservation is a totally different story. Reservation laws are different than State or Federal laws. They have their own Justice System, fines, fees, jails. All bets are off.
(0)Today, I was speeding and I got pulled over. I totally expected the cop to let me go and catch the other speeders, but he didn't! FML.

(0)lol you're still speeding over the limit, what did you expect?
(0)That's such bullshit. Most speed limits are OVERLY-cautious by 20 mph anyway.
(0)Tell it to the judge. And then come back here and tell us how successful and convincing was your position.
(0)Boohoo. YDI. Just because Bob stole a car and you only stole a t.v. doesn't make you less of a thief. Suck it up.
#55 - On 10/19/2009 at 10:48pm by Emrysa
(0)Good point. You don't have to steal anything... just be in the same car when Bob steals it, and you can bet your ass that BOTH of you are going to jail.
(0)Duh... the lion doesn't go after the fastest wildebeest in the herd. He goes after the easiest one to catch.
Stay with the herd if you don't want to get caught. It's not a traffic law... it's the law of natural selection.
(0)just cause someone else is worse, it doesnt mean its alright for you to speed
(+1)The cop didn't really pick you out of the bunch... he's gotta radar gun. and if you're the last car to fly by him speeding; then you're most likely the one to get recorded... simple physics :) or you could have done the "Killer bees in the car" act...
(0)The early bird gets the worm, the second mouse gets the cheese.
(0)85 is not just speeding, it's being stupid. Sounds like the OP was racing and losing with a bunch of other cars. Cop could get only one at a time. Hopefully he called ahead so the others would get pulled over later.
(0)Being a native Floridian, I can tell you that you most likely are wrong. You can and will get tailgated regardless of how fast your going and people will pass you like your sitting still if you aren't going fast enough for them. I've been on the highway where I'm doing 70 and people will pass me like I'm either at a crawl or have stopped in the middle of the road. I've been tailgated having people so far up my ass when I'm already going over the speed limit that they mine as well hop out of their car and come sit in my lap. These are the same people who will use any lane on a highway or road to pass you (even if it doesn't qualify as a passing lane... such as a shoulder, turning lane, or driving on the wrong side of the road) and some have no qualms about weaving in and out of traffic in the slow lanes on a highway.
I'm not sticking up for street racers or anything. Personally, I hope they all get caught and get their licenses taken away (racing is for the tracks, kids). A good portion of Florida drivers are crazy SOB's so don't assume that just because the OP was going far above the speed limit that she was racing and so was everyone else.
OP: Next time, keep up with traffic. Sure, it's dangerous as hell for everyone to be going that fast, but going so far below what everyone else is doing is just as dangerous. Plus, everyone else will be inclined to run you off the road if you don't keep up. I know a few people who've had that happen to them. Basic rules of Florida roads, unfortunately.

(0)So true. Floridians have no patience (me included, I'll admit) when it comes to driving. Go at 70 and everyone will pass you. Go slower than that on the right and people will get impatient with you. Go slower than traffic on the left side of the lane especially, and people will get PISSED and cut you off to get in front of you and/or will tailgate you as close as possible until you change to the right lane (and I hate people like that, but there's tons of them out). I like going at a steady 80, 85 when I'm feelin' it. But I do drive safe and avoid weaving in and out constantly. Key is to definitely go along with traffic though. Don't go too fast or too slow.
(0)might be 'cause most Floridians are New York transplants...
(0)ydi for living in Florida
(0)So don't speed?
Yeah...
(+1)You know this is called Fuck my life... you think the people commenting would be a little less law obiding than this. I know I speed like mad, and I get pissed when I get pulled over. It's not like she got caught selling meth to kids...
(0)Technically, it's called "Failing My Life", and just because people like to read amusing/unfortunate stories about others' mishaps doesn't mean we don't abide by the law.
OP, YDI.
(0)That's happened to my dad before. He was speeding, and he was the slowest out of all the others that were speeding as well.
It sucks, but hey... shouldn't have done it in the first place.
(0)...And I just reread it closely. What? Were you going on I-75? Because I can swear to you that the speed limit's 70. Either this is fake, or... I don't even know.
(0)Alligator Alley. Everyone really does go that fast. It's a way to get from the east to west coast and vise versa through the everglades. It's florida, speeding ins't uncommon. I was clocked going 103 in a 70. Hello court date.
(0)Yeah, I usually go 80-85, but I've never been ticketed before. Maybe I've been just lucky that the cops aren't around or that I'm too good as a cautious driver looking out for the cops. (Not that it really helps, I've had a few panic attacks in the car because they're pretty good at hiding sometimes, but I definitely slow down.) And I agree, people go pretty fast on I-75.
And there's always the two different groups of drivers: the ones that stay precisely at 70 or 75 or below, or those that go 100+. There's almost never a between, because if you go on the left hand lane, people will tailgate you until you switch lanes and if you go on the right, it's just way too slow. At least from my own personal experience.
(0)So, let me get this straight, the police officer just waltzed on up to your window and said out of the blue, your the easiest to catch, so i decided to pull you over, it don't matter that all the others are topping 100+. I'm going to ticket you instead.
HA! I don't believe you for a second. I think you have no life and just wanted to be on fmylife.com so bad you decided to just tell some bullshit story. Well, I got an idea, why don't you get a life to fuck up and then when something real comes along, you can type it up on here and if it is accepted, great. if not, oh well.
(0)It's happened to my dad before too, although many moons ago. He was speeding and so was everyone else, but he was the slowest out of all those that were speeding. He got caught and got ticketed. It's that simple.
(0)If you aint first your last
(0)Seriously if you saw the others driving 100+ and saw that they weren't being caught you should have too and since you didn't even freakinn realize that you deserved the shit you got into honey.
(+1)You still deserve it for speeding.
(0)I understand how that sucks, but yes, speeding is wrooooong.
#84 - On 10/20/2009 at 1:50am by 4ube
(0)still broke the law though didn't you
(0)it's like stealing with a group of ppl from a store and trying to run from the scene, the fat guy is the one that's slowest and gets caught.
(0)Police quotas, amirite?
(0)Speedlimits are there for a reason.
(+1)While you WERE speeding, you may be able to fight it stating that you were going with the flow of traffic and that state-taught driving schools commonly instruct that driving SLOWER than the speed of traffic (even if speeding) can impede traffic and cause more problems (be more dangerous) than strictly obeying the arbitrary speed limit.
#96 - On 10/20/2009 at 7:36am by Grangoire
(0)i'm gonna call this one fake
i know it's florida and people drive fast in florida but 100 mph? that's a little much
(0)You need to see this road, it's completely empty and there's nothing on either side. It's not uncommon for many cars to be going 100+ on this road. Then again I've seen several people hit 100+ on a highway within Miami (I would know this because I was driving at that speed myself). Florida drivers are not the most sane people in the world.
(0)You were speeding. 15+ over the posted limit constitutes reckless driving in most parts of the US. Obviously, YDI.
(0)the bottom line here is don't speed and when you get pulled over instead of someone else who is also speeding don't bitch about it. i guarantee that the reason YOU got the ticket instead of everyone else speeding is because when the cop put his lights on you were the 1st to pull over.
(0)That's not the bottom line. If everyone else around you is speeding, it's more dangerous to go too slow, hence certain highways also have minimum speeds and not just speed limits. Have you ever been surrounded by cars going 90 mph while you were going 70? The drivers will get mad, honk at you, and come incredibly close to hitting you a lot of the time. I agree, your life sucks. You got the short end of the straw.
(0)it's really really easy, drive the speed limit and you won't get a ticket
(0)Take the ticket to court. I know several people who have been ticketed in similar situations, including my father, and each time they've had the ticket successfully thrown out, or only had to pay the fines and not have the points on their license.
(0)Thats what they do.. Nice job
(0)The biggest rule of speeding... GO THE SAME SPEED AS EVERYONE ELSE AND STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK.
If you do that there is almost no chance that you will be pulled over, cops watch the pack leader fly by and radio ahead so he gets pulled over, then the first cop pulls over the last person in the pack (aka the slowest).
(0)same here..they shoot you in the eye with a tazer for looking at the cop wrong..cleveland,OHIO :D
#107 - On 10/20/2009 at 12:45pm by bsias4ever
(0)If you are going to sin, do it all the way.
(0)Speeding is speeding dipshit.
(0)fail
(0)going drastically slower than the rest of traffic is almost just as dangerous as speeding. the only difference is that it puts everyone's hazard in front of them where they're more likely to be looking.
fail on the cop's part though... all that does is encourage people to speed. police cruisers are built fast for a reason. if i were a cop i'd totally go for the fastest one... a good car chase sounds like much more fun than writing up a lot of small scale speeding tickets.
still... 40k over the speed limit...
(0)FYL. Even though you were speeding too, the people here are right. Going 60 when others are going 100 can be even more dangerous than speeding. It's better to just go with the traffic in a situation like this, even if it is speeding.
(0)jfc this place is filled with morons whining about speeding on Alligator Alley. you ppl are probably the same assholes who drive at or under the speed limit in the left lane while cars go around their inconsiderate asses. in short, GTFOOTLL.
oh, and shens on the OP getting pulled over while others were going 100. total bs.
(0)YDI for not going faster.
(0)YDI. Speeding is speeding. Just because other people were going faster than you doesn't make you any less guilty.
I'm a native Floridian, and I live in a town that's overridden with senile, half-blind senior citizens who'll plow you over in the Publix parking lot. I've seen my fair share of terrible, ridiculous drivers. And I WISH that the cops here gave a shit, but they don't; people break nearly all the rules. And other people die for it. Your car is NOT a toy, so don't treat it like one.
#116 - On 10/21/2009 at 7:37pm by genius_next_door
(0)really that's your argument, STFU, it's always someones turn for the group this time it was you... you'll live
(0)i cant believe that ppl are actually taking the cops side on this!
F**K THE HIGHWAY PATROL!
when u take some loser kid that got tired of taking crap throughout highschool and give him a badge, this is what happens.
the other day i saw a cop pull my friend over and take out a measuring stick to measure his exhaust!
and btw, it was totally legal
i have mad respect tho for real law enforcement tho, like SWAT and drug bust teams and the sort
(0)dude your a fuggin idiot
the vast majority of police departments require at least an associates degree. all pd's are extremely selective and competitive when conducting the hiring process. cops arent "loser kids that got tired of taking crap in high school" police officers are highly trained to do the job they do.
as for the measuring stick, be glad he did it. wouldnt it be shitty if he wrote the ticket just because it "looked to long" instead of taking the extra step and checking.
and not just swat and raid teams are "real law enforcment"
nobody gets onto a team like that without years of street experience.
(0)Oh man alligator alley? I've gotten several tickets there...
(0)You see, he did not pursue them because he was at a stop and, even in his interceptor, or charger, or whatever car he may have been driving, he would not have been able to catch them. It would have been a moot cause to pursue them.
Maybe you should be more aware of every vehicle around you, coming up behind you, and that you are coming upon. This is what I do and I manage to go 85 mph in 60 mph zones all the time and never get caught... Sometimes paranoia is not that bad of a thing.
