Riding high

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff

Today, I went to a theme park. The first ride I went on broke down just as my cart reached the highest point. I had a nice view of my loving family laughing at me while management failed to fix the rollercoaster. FML

Better than those people that got stuck upside down for like 8 hours.

At least they were laughing, and not panicking and screaming like my family would be. If no one got hurt it's okay to laugh, they were probably trying to not me you nervous. Besides, it's not your fault that it broke down.

Honestly, just enjoy the view and play a game on your phone.

Wasn't there an FML about a daughters bday and 10 bucks but the granny didnt know before this one posted? And now its removed or were did it go?

Its all fun and games till someone drops their phones

I feel so honored to be the first comment. All of my hard work and dedication has paid off. Getting the top comment has been a dream of mine for many years, and I would like to thank those who have helped me along the way. First and foremost I would like to thank god for giving me this opportunity. Next I would like to thank my parents. I want to thank my cat Belle, for being really fat and always there for me. I would also like to thank my pet tadpole for surviving against all odds for over a week. Next I would like to thank the squirrel that lives in my backyard for climbing trees because that gives me inspiration that I need to get through the day. I also want to think Max Rainer for giving me someone to beat in Mario Party. This is a special moment in my life and I would like to thank any of my unmentioned friends and family that have helped me along the way. This moment will be a moment that I will never forget. I just remembered a few other people I would like to thank; facebook, the fish I caught in the third grade, my light in my room because I wouldn’t be able to see the keyboard without it, the internet for letting me go on FML, my house because without it I would be homeless, and last but not least I would like to thank all the people out there that actually took time out of their day to read this. I cannot stress how much of a big deal to me this is. I have been trying to be the first comment on a post for years, but that has not been possible until this amazing day. Hopefully my good luck will continue, but this is undoubtedly a rare occasion. If you asked me how I did this, I would say, you can achieve anything you set your mind on. To all the kids out there reading this, I would like to tell them to follow their dreams. Being the top comment is amazing. Thank you, and God bless!

Shit. I thought I had it, but I missed by mere seconds. I now patiently await my thumbs down. On the bright side, at least my 100th comment was an interesting one.

You barely missed it but you're second ;)

If that's your "thank you speech" for a 1st comment, then I would hate to see you if you ever become famous and win some sort of award.

...while making yourself look completely insane to the other passengers. Besides, birds aren't the best conversationalists; they tend to flit off right in the middle of a conversation. OP's best bet would be to scream hysterically and thrash around violently while enjoying the reactions of his trapped audience.

I was on the newest ride at Dollywood, the Wild Eagle, and we all got strapped in and the ride wouldn't move. Did you know roller coasters had instruction manuals? Neither did I. Then on another ride, still at Dollywood, the ride got finished and we were sitting outside the building (the ride has 7-8 cars) and no one would move. They had to plug the cars up to get us out.

I'm known for having the patience of a stone, so I can talk to flighty bird-brains all day. :P

It's quite funny that your comment is the only remaining evidence of that failure.

I hope you aren't afraid of heights. That would make this much worse. I would've asked for refund or something.

Yeah for sure, if you bitch enough corp. will give you anything

If OP was afraid of heights, then why would they be on a roller coaster in the first place?

62- Because you got to overcome them eventually. If OP is afraid heights, maybe (s)he finally said "enough, I'm going on a coaster." I know that I was afraid of roller coasters and then I finally said to myself that I need to have fun like everyone else and go on. But I was screaming worse than a little girl lol

Guy that's thinks your first comment your not your second cause you decided to write a huge comment you should post it on fml

Congratulations!! You can now join the FML mile high club. I have yet to post an FML higher than 10 ft, but I hope to join the club one day

How crazy would that be? A roller coaster that has a highest point of 1 mile. Can you even imagine the terror?

So why do we need these oxygen tanks? OH GOD

That actually sounds like a cool spot to be op, great view! As far as your family goes, I hope they were in range of a good spit.

That happened to me once, on "The Chiller" at Six Flags. While we were stuck we chatted amongst one another. I learned that the guy in front of me was riding his first ride since he was a child, when he and his mother got stuck on a ferris wheel. We all said, "So it's YOU! YOU JINXED THE RIDE!"

How many times have you been stuck on a ride? you commented on another comment about a different ride

I never said it was a different ride. I was talking about the exact same incident on another comment, but mentioned different details. In this comment I described my interactions with the other people that were stuck. In the other comment I described how the ride came to a stop.

I went to Harry Potter world with my family last year and my cart on the Hogwarts ride malfunctioned. It was actually pretty cool because we got to go through the whole ride facing forward (it isn't a roller coaster for those that don't know. It has chairs and giant projectors that simulate flying) so we got to see the inner workings of the ride. It kind of took away the magic though :/

Wow! That happened to me too! My "flying chair" stopped when Draco attacked Harry. It only stopped for about a minute or two though, but the video stopped as well. And yes, it completely killed the illusion.

My cart at Harry potter world stopped twice when I went on it: once in front of aragog, then again in front of the dementors.

What a coincidence :) I guess they need to work the kinks out of that ride so it doesn't malfunction so much XD

At least you were right side up when the coaster stopped, I'd hate to have it stop and you're halfway through a corkscrew or something

That's exactly what happened to me once. The ride stopped mid-loop, but that's not where it got stuck. It coasted backwards and rocked back and forth a bit until it finally settled at the lowest point between two loops. I guess it didn't have enough momentum to make it through the loop. I think they design the rides that way on purpose so if the ride does stop, the people aren't stuck upside down, which can be dangerous.

I'm thinking maybe you should rethink the whole going on rides thing. You have bad riding luck. My brother and I got stuck upside down for over ten minutes on the super loop at our local fair and while at Cedar Point three roller coasters in a row stopped with me on them. Never again lol.

I don't have terrible luck. I've ridden roller coasters and other theme park rides hundreds of times and only twice have I ever been stuck. That's fewer than the number of car accidents I've been in but I still drive. If you ride enough theme park rides, eventually one of them is going to malfunction in some way, but that doesn't mean you're in any danger. I think you're letting a few bad experiences keep you from doing something that is very thrilling and fun. Although I wouldn't blame you if you didn't go to Cedar Rapids again. It sounds like that park just doesn't maintain its rides well. That has nothing to do with riding theme park rides elsewhere though.
