Sounds like there were some serious trust issues with her...maybe she's not crazy but obviously trust does not come easily for her. It is however, lost easily. If I were you I would have confronted the girl on the spot and asked her to give details about what she "supposedly" knew about you. If your ex had half a brain(and some trust) she'd figure out the other girl was full of it.
On the other hand, your ex may have been tired of the relationship, and possibly seeing someone else on her end. If that was the case, she'd look for a reason to dump you and not make her look like the bad person.
In the meantime, it's time to start looking for some fresh trim.

I've had that sort of happen. My ex and I, who were (still are??) very good friends were talking one night and he got all "I love you, I miss you, I can't get over you no matter how hard I try" And I, being honest, told him I missed him too. (I was the one who broke up with him, but only because I moved three provinces away) Well anyways the very next day his current girlfriend messages me and asks me if I've spoken to him because they're going out and he didn't tell me. (They broke up, and now he has a new gf and I haven't heard from him since so I guess he actually likes her...and I told him not to treat her any differently than he had treated me)
But yeah, girls are really evil sometimes...possibly more so than men because when they do decide to do damage, it usually lasts longer and has a worse effect.
If she broke up with you over that, she might have been cheating on you anyway and looking for a quick excuse to get out of the relationship. Just saying :/
