Today, I found out that my violent ex has moved to my country for the sole purpose of tracking me down. I know this because my former boss called and told me she gave him my address. She loves the idea of us getting back together because, "You're such a cute couple!" FML

that's not right at all. bosses are not supposed to give out private information like that. you could report her if the ex is that crazy and get her fired for putting you in a dangerous situation

Yeah, that's super illegal. It's like how doctors aren't supposed to give out info to people about your health and issues unless you state so; this was extremely uncalled for and I cannot believe anyone in that position would think that it would be okay. You definitely should report her OP. She endangered you just because she thought you would be a cute couple.

She should have contacted OP and asked him if she could pass on that information, and told the ex that she is sorry but she can't give that stuff out without your consent.

I was just about to say the same thing. although, regardless of how dangerous the ex is, OP could sue the company anyway, because giving personal information out to anyone who asks is illegal.

I second this, that is a total violation of privacy and I'm disgusted by how unprofessional that boss is.

Go to HR and report it. That's a gross violation of privacy. If not immediate termination then right to final warning. Playing matchmaker is not an acceptable reason.

You do realise it says former boss. She either changed jobs or the boss retired.

OP could still probably report it to his old work's HR.

Agreed! That is a HUGE violation of privacy, let alone the fact that it could put OP in a dangerous situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is the potential to sue on the grounds of human endangerment.

That's illegal, and she just helped a potential stalker. If your violent ex contacts or approaches you, document it, and if it repeats or goes violent, go to the police or other law official.

To the above comments, I'm guessing it would be OP's former boss because of the fact that they had moved countries ?

Your *former* boss? That's ****** up. She's not even supposed to be involved in your life anymore if you don't work for her et this point. Not to say this situation would be better if you still worked for her.

Wow your former boss is not very sharp. That sucks OP. Hopefully you can stay at somebody else's house maybe?

You should report your boss for giving out personal information, and you should get a restraining order on your ex. That's a dangerous situation you don't need to be involved in. Stay safe, OP

I agree. Report the boss on breach of privacy, and get a restraining order. If shit gets bad with the ex, sue the boss for life endangerment.

im pretty sure your former boss cant actually do that, and im doubly sure that you should call the police. now. he seems a little too dedicated.

That is very dangerous and pretty careless of your old boss to do that putting you at risk I really hope that things work out for you and you stay safe

No matter what country you're in call the cops. I never met one who likes violent stalkers.

Sadly there are some cops who will think the violent stalker is actually not that bad of a person and then they won't do anything. Look at Nichole Brown Simpson, she called the cops on OJ 8 times during their marriage and each time nothing was done. She once even went out to them with a busted lip, bruised face, and other cuts and begged them to do something. Instead they talked about football with him and then just left. I'm sure I don't need to explain the rest of what happened.

If OP's ex is that crazy to where they moved to the same country just to find them, a restraining order won't stop them.

Maybe but they would go to jail after one offence

Unless the cops decide it's not worth their time. My sister's ex violated his RO and the cops let him off because "he seemed like a good guy" and because they thought my sister was a crazy bitch. Which she definitely is when it comes to protecting her kids from their psycho father.

My aunt was murdered last year by her ex. She was denied restraining orders several times because he was such a well liked person that they wouldn't believe her. He finally just walked right into her house, shot her 17 times in the head and chest, then shot himself.

#63 That is awful. I'm sorry that happened, and for their reactions, did things change in terms of how they give restraining orders as a result?
