Today, I was talking to my grandma and I mentioned the fact that tomatoes are technically fruit. It's been an hour and she's still yelling, accusing me of lying to her. FML

It's amazing how fired up people get over a tomato...

So either show her some proof or just let her think she's right. it can't matter that much.

I say argue your point and offer proof. Not that it's important to always be right, but if someone is berating you for lying about something that is a simple fact, I say stand your ground!

fruits, vegetables... you know... to-may-to, to-mah-to

"Technically" a fruit. A fruit is a fruit, nothing really technical about that logic.

Also black and white aren't really colours as you can't make them with any products of the 3 primary colours :p

This sounds like something MY grandma would do if I told her it was a veggie

There's a lot of vegetables that are fruits. Tomatoes, all varieties of squash, cucumbers; really, anything that grows on the plant above ground and isn't a leaf or seed pod. This includes all forms of berries. Just because something is a fruit doesn't mean it's not a vegetable. In fact, in a biological sense, all fruits are, by definition, vegetables.

I honestly find it hard to believe that tomatoes are fruit though.

Well a fruit is anything that has seeds in it i.e. the ovary of the plant. I would ask, where is the seeds in the tomato?

so what? shes getting anything through a straw soon anyway. no matter if its fruit or vegetable
