OP, I definitely feel for you. This almost happened to me twice, but I was fortunate in some sense. I was offered a job, accepted it, and before I was even able to give my notice, the person who hired me was fired and the job offer was rescinded. Life is definitely weird. Good luck, OP -- hope you find something even better than both jobs!

It sounds like you can file a claim with the Unemployment Dept until you find something else. You didn't quit this job.

Based on promissory estoppel and depending on the circumstances, you may be allowed to make them enforce the agreement / promise / seek compensation because you acted to your detriment based on their 'promise' to hire you. They obviously would have expected / should have foreseen that you would have had to quit your job in order to work for them. But considering your wife works there.. it may get awkward.
