Today, I had to slowly explain to my boss that in some parts of the world, it's currently winter, due to the different hemispheres. He scoffed, accused me of "making shit up," and said that if I took him for a fool again, I'd be looking for a new job. FML

How does a different hemisphere change the seasons...the seasons dont change every day when the earth rotates I thought seasons had to do with how far away the earth was from the sun not which side of the earth is facing the sun...I mean yes some places because of their location on the earth will vary by a couple months but it just don't make sense

There's enough of an axial tilt that in regards to temperature shifts and precipitation satatistics it is winter. Look at australia this time of year. It's colder and there's more rain. And I don't just mean a few days. It's months of this.

It's because the orbit is on very very slightly elliptical. However, the earth's axis is tilted, meaning that one hemisphere will be closer to the sun than the other at all times.
